Mission:
The Mentarin Effect
Location: Sickbay
As per regulations Sky made her way to Sickbay for her arrival medical. Given the amount of time she’d spent in medical care during her life, due to her abilities she was always nervous going for medicals. She paused outside Sickbay and took a deep breath then walked inside.
"The settings are the same." Milton said with emphasis as he stood near the main environmental controls pointing to the display.
A lightly glowing feminie figure; six inches tall, hovered at eye level with the doctor. Hands on her hips and bowed forward in that way to show her temper to the much larger human. Sounds of a belll rhythm between Christmas and a military march seemed to ring out at the small flying figure pointed to the Doctor then to the air vent.
"I don't know why there is an increase of out pressure." He said to the female. "Well why donl't you try getting a running start and fly faster."
The faye crossed her arms; straightened and look over her shoulder pouting and not making eye contact with the Doctor.
Sky smiled as she greeted the ship’s CMO. “I’m Sky Jansen, the new Chief Counsellor. I’m here for my boarding medical.”
"Oh... yes." Milton shook his head and looked at the counselor. "Talk later." He said to Pix and then crossed to the counselor. "Sorry about that, Pix was informing me about the apparent change in the settings. "He offered a handshake. "Dctor Rutherford Milton at your Service." He nod tro her. "Or you can call me Doctor RJ if you like?"
The Faire was not at all happy about not getting her attention to her point of view and she glanced at the Counselor and then flew away towards the CMO office.
“I hope I didn’t offend her?” Sky offered an apologetic glance. “I’ll try and make her acquaintance another time.”
"Pix is not happy right now." Milton gesture towards Table number one. "Seems the out pressure from the vents has changed and she is not as easy to get her usual entry when she wants to roam about." He called up the counselor's file as he lead her. "ANything you want to tell me about yourself before I start the scans and all?"
Sky nodded. “I’m a bit of a mix heritage wise” she offered a smile. “I’m half Betazoid and half Romulan, as green blooded as it comes and I possess all the abilities of my Betazoid heritage.
"We do get all kinds of folks 'round here." Milton offered her the biobed. "You you would not mind sitting up here I can get the scans started" He said while giving the lady time to settle herself. "I suppose I should think about making an appointment with you as well." He chuckled. "Kind of lead by example and all."
Pix was at the doorway looking at the interaction; half hidden she flew from the office towards the lightinting fixture between the office and new person. Tilting her head and giving Jansen a good looking over from a safe distance.
"Pix is leary of teal uniforms she does not know." Milton mentioned as he had noted the small one's jingling approach. "Sciences; both Medical and the Xeno- sciences gave her too many pokes and prods when we first found her stowed away and until she gets to know you might keep you arm's Length." He chuckled lightly. "She is the Counselor Pix, might get used to seeing her more often." Pix landed on the fixture , curling her legs under her and slowly agreed by nodding.
“In that case I promise no poking or prodding” Sky smiled warmly. “I’ll take you up on that psych evaluation once I’ve got my schedule up and running.” She frowned and massaged her temples. “I can understand how Pix feels, I’ve been in and out of hospitals and institutions myself, especially when I was younger mainly due to my abilities developing earlier than they should have.”
"That would explain an elevated register in the Alpha Waves." Milton had a kind thought come to him and he smiled before speaking. "No transporters of holograms involved here." He made a flurry of his hands and in his right hand a white rose bud was held between two fingers. "Freshly aroma and pretty to look at, something a lady needs." He offered the bud.
It was a simple gift thathe offered; the scents and appearance wold give her something else to focus her senses upon; he had found with Betazoids or Empathic types a slight distraction cut the focus in the Alpha Waves typically associated with Empathy and the more Psychic abilities of humanoids. Plus he figured all women of substance would apprechate a flower once in a while just because?
Pix had decended quietly to sit on the display's top edge, legs dumure under the white skirt as she half lounged and observed the happenings, a light sigh and smile as she noted the flower being offered.
Sky smiled the biggest smile yet as she took the Rose. “Oh my I’m not used to being offered flowers, it’s gorgeous! Thank you.” She gently inhaled the scent enjoying the subtle scent. “How did you do that? Are you a magician in your spare time?”
"I dabble, could say it was passed down in my Family from the days of Merlin." The looked up and smiled while half his attention took a visual scan of the Biobed display. "No direct relation but I like to keep the Magic alive." A small echo of bells happened as Pix had a full belly laugh.
Sky couldn’t help but laugh. “Think we should get you to put on a magic show! It would keep everyone entertained. You’re doing a good job of trying to keep me distracted so far.” She smiled a wry smile. “We Counsellor’s know all the tricks you know. Question is, is it working to bring my readings down?”
"The flower is for the smile." He look her in the eye. "I find that Pix makes a better distraction." He explained and winked. "As a counselor you should know the healing power of being happy or that a smile is good for a patient?" He nod to her. "If you were a child in Pigtails it would have been a lollipop for being such a good patient while I run my checks." He took another glance at the display.
“So I don’t get the lollipop!?” Sky pulled a pouting face before giggling. “I have to admit this is the best, most relaxed check up I’ve ever had.” She smiled warmly. “Thank you, I do appreciate it. My readings normally go through the roof when I’m in Sickbay, a remnant of the number of times I’ve been hospitalised. It’s nice to not be worried that I’d be required to stay.”
"Thank you so much for the complement. " He was grinning as he took another glance at the display. "Well, being of two heritages that are 'sensitive' is not so much unusual, but added with the copper based Vulcan blood with the more Betazoid being more humanoid average blood you are not so far I cannot help you if needed." Smiling he look her in the eyes. "I was trained by a Country Doctor who still made house calls when needed, so if you even think you might need attention come on in or call for me, I tend to not keep usual business hours so it is okay if you need."
Sky nodded and offered a warm smile. “I appreciate that. It’s not easy not being able to switch off my abilities. It’s a permanent struggle for control, not that I’ll be calling you at all hours of the day and night!”
"You have been a very good little Girl for the scary Doctor." He was sure not to touch her as the Vulcan DNA would react in a spike with touch he guessed, one of the reasons Vulcan seem aloof is their care not to touch many people and spark their Sensitivity with that sensory input. "But aside from the Alpha Waves range of activity, being empathic that can be expected, I do not see anything hindering your performing your duties, you passed your Medical exam."
Sky smiled warmly, “Thats wonderful, thank you for making me feel so at ease. I noticed you avoided touching me just then, I appreciate that too. I’ve had people touch me before who haven’t realised and it’s been awkward trying to explain why I’m suddenly connected to them. Most are understanding but some have thought I read their minds on purpose.” She shrugged her shoulders, “All part of the fun of being me!”
"All part of the individualized service with a smile." Milton said and waved his hand in the air and a little bit of sparkles as a lollipop dropped from the ceiling. "AND we do have rewards for good girls as they asked." The tinkling dust from Pix as she had flown at top level to drop the lollipop to the doc.
Sky grinned. “Oh wow!” She couldn’t help but giggle. “I could get used to being in Sickbay you know. I’ll be in and out as part of my duties anyway. I hope I’ve shown Pix I’m not so bad.”
"She tends to not stay shy long." Rutherford joked. "She likes people, she will come around so long as you allow her to think you believe in fairies." He winked with a sly grin.
“I’ve always believed in fairies!” Sky grinned. “I do believe they have little homes at the bottom of the garden, or so I was lead to believe when I was younger. I maybe older now but I still believe in magic and mystery.”
A light sprinkling of dust from the ceiling, slightly illuminated, fell upon the Doctor. Looking up it was Pix glowing with a low level luminence as the pixie was blushing with a smile as she spun in the air slowly as though basking in some unseen warmth or sunlight.
"Now you have gone to her head." Milton chuckled. "Pix seems to glow more when complemented and her mood changes; children really make her glow. I think it is some biological reaction to her being happy. When the children say they believe she does that..." He explained.
Pix suddenly did what look like a dive bomb style maneuver towards Jansen from above; trailing her dust as she did an anglar approach tinto a orbital flight around the Counselor while the trail of 'dust' was about the woman. The shy grin and what could be noted as a blush to her face before she ended her orbital and flew away towards the CMO office.
Sky laughed as she watched the trail of fairy dust fall about her. “This is great! It’s like being a kid again.” She smiled at Pix as she watched her flying around. “So does this mean we’re friends?”
Pix pulled up to a hover just outside the Doctor's doorway; beaming she nod then turned to fly into the CMO office.
"I suppose that answers that now doesn't it." Milton laugh. "Do not be surprised if your Air Vent glows, she checks up on people she likes and such."
“I don’t see a problem with that” Sky grinned. “No problem at all.”
