Mission:
Traitor amongst us?
Location: Ready room
Timeline: current
Melor walked into the captain's office. This time he had not made an appointment but what happened on earth was too fresh on his mind. It made him fear even more for his father's and grandfather's safety.
"Sir, have you heard anymore?" He asked a little anxious. "Has captain Drex been notified of what happened?"
"We can definitely find out." He assured him. "Computer, open communications the it Gree'tok."
Captain Drex’s face showed on the screen with an unusual amount of interference. It looked like the Gree’tok was in red alert mode and the Klingon’s visage looked rather annoyed. “What is it Captain Carey… I’m a little busy at the moment.” He fired off some orders in his native language and returned his attention to the commlink.
"Apologies Captain, there has been several assassinations as well as attempted assassinations on the family we spoke of previously. Several higher ranking... the commander has been worried about his father and grandfather."
Drex's expression didn't change. "We're currently apprehending someone from the guilty house." He turned and barked some more orders to someone not in view. "Some of the lower councils are filing grievances with the High Council. They are really making a political mess. There's even been talk of discommendation."
That pricked Melor's ears. "Other houses are getting involved?" That had only happened on a tiny scale before and not enough to make a difference.
Drex’s image was staticky for a second then he confirmed, “Not all houses agree with with Reshtarc’s family feud. It is one that should have been over long ago. It’s also causing political problems lower councils don’t want to deal with.” The Gree’tok appeared to shudder in the background. Drex barked some more orders to his bridge crew and those who knew Klingon would also understand he was berating his gunners.
Melor hid a smile as he watched Drex lead in the familiar Klingon way. "Should we contact you at a later time? I am anxious for news of my father and grandfather."
“Last I heard they were in a secure location,” Drex answered tersely. “…and yes, call me back later.”
"Thank you, sir." Melor said breathing a sigh of relief.
"Thank you Captain... and may the battle be glorious and your house honour." Xavier replied as he cut the communication. "That answers that... perhaps things are coming to an end for the house of Reshtarc. I do need to talk to the General again."
"Yes uncle Richard will want to know that grandad is safe. It is a relief I must say. Thank you captain, for all you are doing for my family."
Xavier nodded. "I would do the same for any of my crew. A Captain should have their officers back no matter what it is."
"Believe me, not all would. I am glad Tony is serving under you."
Xavier paused for a moment. "Well then I guess i'm not like others then."
"No you are not." Melor smiled. He had served under enough not so good captains himself.
"Well... I am hoping that settles that Commander. Or at least for the time being." He straightened his uniform.
"Yes sir. Oh one thing sir. I wondered if I could temporary work on Resolution. I hate sitting around and doing nothing and I feel about ready to go back to work."
Xavier thought about it, "This whole thing has me... worried... there could be further implications... if you want... talk to Commander Doctrine... maybe she can set you up with things. I know this now not only affects you... but with your family onboard... it does make it likely that the Resolution will be a target."
"If you would rather I didn't... I would understand, sir." Melor said. He was aching to work but he would not put the ship in danger.
"Whether you do or not... nothing changes... i'd rather put someone trying to look into it."
"Thank you sir, I will have a word with commander Doctrine then." Melor said taking his leave.
