Back to duty

Mission: Traitor amongst us?
Location: Sickbay

Even though the crew were on Shoreleave, Sickbay was still manned by a skeleton crew. Standing in Sickbay Kiara smiled, this was her first shift as ACMO. She had no doubt it was going to be quiet, perfect timing for a complete inventory of the ship’s medical supplies ready for restock.

Tony walked in looking for Rutherford. She felt a bit better and her mind was clear and as discussed with Xavier she wanted back on light duties.

Kiara smiled as she greeted Tony, she’d taken the time to make herself up-to-date on current patients and Tony was certainly that. “Hello Commander” She smiled warmly. “Is everything alright?”

"I was looking for your boss. His latest treatments are doing such a good job that I would like to return to duty. My therapist is ok with it."

“Give me a minute just to pull up your records.” Kiara motioned Tony to a biobed. “Please sit down, I’ll need to run a quick scan.”

"Ok." Apparently Rutherford was not around.

“I should call Doctor Milton but right now he’s enjoying some well deserved off duty time. I’m now Assistant Chief so it’s my call. She ran a quick scan of Tony, comparing it to Rutherford’s previous scans. “Well from looking at this your baselines are within acceptable levels, what Doctor Milton has done for you isn’t a cure, it’s a temporary fix. If I allow you to take on any duties I want a promise that you won’t overdo it.”

"I promise, doctor." Tony said. "And I will keep up with my meds and appointments, here as well as with counselling."

Kiara nodded. “It’s Kiara, I’ve never been one for titles” she grinned. “I just hope Doctor Milton doesn’t give me a swift kick up the backside for this.” She tapped the PADD she had nearby. “Okay I’ve updated your medical records to say you’re authorised for light... and I mean light, duties.”

"Thank you Kiara." Tony gave her a bright smile. She could not wait to go back to work. "I promise."

“Good, because if you over do it you’ll end up relapsing. Which means you’ll be right back here in the state you started off in.” Kiara gave her a stern look, before smiling. “I’ll notify Captain Carey that you’re cleared for light duties.”

"I appreciate it." Tony said. "And make sure you get some shore leave yourself."

“I intend to” Kiara smiled. “I already have plans. Right now I need to do this inventory, and make sure we have all the medical supplies we need.”

"If there is anything I can help you with, let me know." Tony said. "It is important that we are well stocked when we leave here."

“I will Commander, Doctor Milton normally has everything well stocked, but I thought I’d check just incase.” Kiara smiled warmly.

"Good thinking as he has been really busy lately. It will be good for him to have you to help him out."

“I hope it’ll give him time to rest and relax” Kiara offered a warmer smile. “He deserves the chance for some r&r.”

"He certainly does, and so does Pix. They both worked very hard recently." Tony agreed.

Kiara nodded. “Hence why Starfleet has finally gotten around to filling the ACMO position.”

"I am glad they did.' Tony said. "We have been understaffed for so long now."

“Which seems very odd.” Kiara gave Tony a concerned look. “Which makes me wonder why?”

"What?" Tony was not following her.

“Why we’re so understaffed, it’s unusual to leave a ship understaffed.” Kiara shrugged her shoulders. “Maybe I’m just over thinking it.”

"I am really not following you. You think something is going on?"

“I doubt it, it’s just my imagination doing overtime” Kiara smiled. “There’s word of the possibility of war, so I guess Starfleet is overstretched.”

"what else could it be?" Tony was curious now.

“Don’t worry Commander, it’s just my brain doing overtime.” Kiara grinned. “You’re free to go, I will be sending my recommendations straight to Doctor Rutherford and the Captain.”

"Thank you, Kiara. I really apreciate it." Tony said.

Kiara nodded and smiled. “If I’m scrubbing floors next time you come in you’ll know Doctor Milton didn’t like my decision” she couldn’t help but grin. “Now go and enjoy your new found freedom a little.”

Tony smiled at that. "I think I will go straight to work. I have had too much time on my hands lately."

Kiara nodded “Any problems you know where to find us.”

"This time I promise I will. You have been good to me."

Kiara nodded. “What else are friends for Tony?” She smiled warmly.
