Aquatic Engineering

Mission:
Starship Side Quest
Location: Holodeck 4
Lieutenant Isla Hamilton stood by the side of the deep diving pool on holodeck four. She had opted for a simple tankini made up of a cropped tank top and matching trunks. Her comm badge was pinned to her chest as usual.
Normally, she wouldn't wear such revealing attire. However today they were training to work underwater in a tropical environment. The Lantea Colony was upcoming and it was built in the center of a tropical lagoon, much like the Earth city of Venice.
Therefore, Isla needed to train the right people to carry out the underwater repairs that the Colony needed. Three sets of scubagear sat at her feet, along with special engineering kits designed to work underwater. She would need to train both Engineering and Operations personnel in the use of this equipment.
Etan was pretty sure that he wasn't at his best here, but there was a colony that needed support, and the Resolution was the best ship to do the job. He'd brought an antigrav sled loaded with various environmental gear. While a great deal of Starfleet's equipment was already waterproof, the officers themselves needed equipment to navigate safely. For himself, he'd switched into a light duty coverall, which was lighter and would give him more mobility for whatever delicate tasks. He wasn't a very strong swimmer, but he would at least try his best. He walked over to the more confident looking woman with a pleasant expression that never reached a smile. "Lieutenant Hamilton? I'm Lieutenant tar-Lexros. I brought some equipment for the exercise."
Isla nodded. "Thanks for coming. I put this program together so we can train safely repairing aquatic systems before we get to the colony,: She responded. "Do you intend to wear loose clothing underwater? I wouldn't suggest that...:
Geiger happened to walk up at the time that they were discussing the clothing. He had chosen for a wet suit when he had heard that they were doing preparation training for the underwater repairs at the colony they were coming up to. He had other gear stashed in the duffle bag as he wasn't exactly sure what they needed. He did know that they would be able to go through and change out if they needed something specific as it was the holodeck after all. "Sirs," he commented as he walked up, the bag well over his shoulder.
Etan nodded over at Geiger when he arrived, and reached into the cases of equipment, opening one up and pulling out three life support belts for them. They weren't heavily used anymore because of the extreme risk if something went wrong. But in a situation like this where there was neither the vacuum of space or extreme underwater pressure, and there would be close support, they could be very helpful in allowing the crew to perform delicate tasks with less hindrance. "We used these on the Cannonball a few times - she'd just never had them removed. I requisitioned a case of them in case they were needed last time we docked at a Starbase. They're not the best for every situation; but in something like this, I think they're one of the best tools for the job."
He passed them out to the others with a smile.
Looking over the belt, Geiger offered a half cocked smile. "I haven't seen these since the Academy."
Etan nodded at Geiger with his smile still intact. "They are old-fashioned. They still work, though."
"That's a plus," the Trill commented.
"Regardless. We need to make sure you know how to do engineering repairs underwater. It's much different than space like we've done before," Isla told them all.
"Considering how rusty I am with ship systems anyways, it's a welcome exercise," Geiger mentioned honestly.
Etan nodded at the two of them. "I've read some of the repair manuals on the subject. I thought life belts would be better suited than EV suits. I've never really done much underwater, though."
"Guess we get to find out," Geiger said, with a light tone of jest lacing his voice.
