Mission: The Mentarin Effect
OOC - added in Sky Jansen, after the post that I've just posted. Sky, feel free to fit yourself into what's already here.
After speaking with the Counsellor, Kane finally headed for the shuttlebay, with the Lieutenant seemingly reluctantly in tow, ready to go back to the surface. 'Commander Johnson had assembled a Security team, who would be waiting for her there. The Captain's condition was still an unknown to Eve, and for as long as that was the case, to her he was very much in the land of the living. She'd been in Engineering and Operations for the last five years, but after her years in and out of multiple professions, she still knew how to get back into the zone of being in Security. As the shuttlebay doors parted, she approached the craft that the Captain and his team had most recently used when Johnson was waiting for her.
"'Commander," she spoke, offering him a nod. "I want to go down in tactical armour, just in case these people get any more bright ideas about shooting at us."
"I'm way ahead of you," Tony responded as he directed her to the tactical armour. "In unknown situations like these I prefer not to leave the ship without it."
"Excellent, 'Commander," Eve replied, heading over to the equipment locker that Tony had directed her to. She opened one of the drawers, and removed herself a set of the equipment. She called out to him, as she got herself kitted up, "I want to take us back down to the same co-ordinates. We'll start our investigation there. When we land, I want a secure perimeter establishing around the shuttle, and full sensor sweeps on the surrounding buildings."
Talsi walked up, "Commander, I take it you and my husband didnt kill each other in the talk you guys had."
Eve took one look at the tall, blue skinned, woman before her, and briefly was taken a back by both her dominating figure, and also her natural beauty. "I assure you Lieutenant," she began, knowing who her husband was, "I'm not so easy to kill." She smirked at her. While she had her... misgivings - understatement of the decade - about working with Greyson, she didn't direct those feelings towards Talsi. That perhaps wouldn't be fair on her. She already had the misfortune of being married to Cameron, without the added pressure of animosity with a superior. "And I'm certain that we'd have a problem right now if I had," she added eventually.
Merely raising an eyebrow. "He does think highly of you." Talsi grabbed the equipment that she chose and walked over to the shuttle.
"I find that hard to believe," Kane muttered, as she watched her walk away. Checking the phaser, and then holstering it away, she eventually followed aboard the shuttle. She was quietly pleased that the Pilot's seat was vacant on this occasion, as she hadn't yet had the chance to take the new shuttles that they'd taken on board out for a spin. Settling in at the helm, she looked to her left, where 'Commander Johnson had settled in as co-pilot. "Everybody, strap in. I'm initiating pre-flight sequences."
"He is hardest on the ones he believes can give him a challenge Commander." Tal replied as she sat down on the floor cross legged.
'Damn her hearing,' Eve thought, as she was definitely replying to something that she'd said only really to herself. She sealed the rear hatch, and brought the engines online. With one hand, she continued the start-up routine, as they prepared to take off, while with the other, she opened the comm. channel. "Shuttlecraft Huron to Bridge," Kane began, "Commander Greyson, we're ready to depart."
Sky had simply kept her ears open and her mouth shut as she listened to the others on the away team chat. She’d been whisked straight down to join those departing, no ifs and no buts, simply added in and that was that. She had volunteered to go, so she couldn’t really complain.
"Return in one piece Commander," Greyson replied over the intercom. "Cleared for departure."
"Copy that," Eve replied, "we'll make sure that we will." Closing the channel, she lifted off the shuttle off the deck, and out through the shuttlebay door. Setting a course for the shuttle's previous landing co-ordinates, she turned slightly to face both Johnson, and the rest of the Away Team. She tried to channel her inner Leonard, who was always generous with his crew. "Recommendations, 'Commander Johnson?"
"First thing first is to speak with the leadership down and find out just how bad things really are," Tony answered. "Then quickly take to the streets and find what evidence that we can find. Not sure if you wish for everyone to stick together or break off in two separate groups."
"If its a sniper Commander, the streets would not be the location to look for. Look for higher ground. Whats the terrain like, are there hills, trees, tall buildings. It would not have been from the crowd, if by what you stated was true."
"Didn't literally mean the streets, but you get the point regarding tall buildings." Tony handed a PADD over to Kane. "This is a basic blue print of the surrounding area. From where the Captain was hit. The sniper had to be posted around this area, I have marked off. This would definitely be where we need to direct our investigation."
"Buildings don't make sense. It would slow the escape seeing transporters are unavailable. How far is the tree line... or hill tops."
"This is pretty much an urban terrain," Johnson explained. "But buildings would be a logical choice." Once again he pointed to the PADD. "The protestors were around the following positions. Once the shot was fired the protestors naturally ran in several directions unsure where the danger was coming from. Initially we weren't really sure of where exactly the attack was coming from. Any decent sniper would have quickly cleared the building and blended in with the crowd."
"Could be, I guess we wont find out until we get down there."
The Security Chief Officer nodded in agreement. "Everything at the moment is theory and speculation at best. Hopefully their leaders will provide us with some information regarding suspects."
"We will see. Whats your take Commander?"
"Too early to tell for now," Tony admitted. "Wondering if we should've brought at least three more security personnel."
Hesitating for only a second. "I was surprised about the small team, after a previous attack Commander, but it was not my place to say anything."
Sky watched the exchange with curiosity, she could only hope they had enough security people with them.
Tali wh o was looing after coms, looked to the tea. "We are being called back to the ship. The Commander is being transferred to a new position off ship."
