Welcome, now get to the shuttlebay

Mission:
The Mentarin Effect
Location: Ready room
Timeline: Current
Cameron stood staring out the window, the Potempkin just left the Resolution after picking up the former CO and commander, he was happy for the Commander, she deserved the first officer position, the fact it wasn't here, was a bit disappointing. He had to chuckle a bit, the CO of the Potemptkin made a visit to the Resolution to personally give him his pip... he was appreciative of course.
"Computer, contact Commander Sandoval and Lieutenant Commander Doctrine have them report to the Ready room immediately." Greyson replied. There was still a mission down on the planet, the time for reminiscing was over. The time for stalling was done. It was time to get this over with.
Marisa had just finished unpacking when she got the message. Well, no time like the present, she thought. She checked her image in the mirror to make sure she didn't look mussed up and headed for the Ready Room. She paused as she entered the bridge and smiled. She was impressed with the Galaxy-class. It was an elegant ship and she looked forward to serving here.
She paused outside the door and rang the chime.
Diane checked herself in the mirror before leaving her cabin. Nothing wrong with making a good first impression, she thought. Her uniform was straight and her hair was tied back in a ponytail per regulations. She arrived on the bridge just after Commander Sandoval. It looked like she was waiting to be admitted to the Captain's ready room. She noticed the rank pips on the woman's collar. "Commander Sandoval, I presume?" she asked with an easy going smile.
"Indeed. And you are Commander Doctrine. A pleasure to meet you," Marisa said. She recognized the other woman from the crew list she'd been given.
Cameron looked up from his desk, "Enter." He watched as the two entered the room. "Commanders, I wish this was under better circumstances, I've gotta get you both straight to work."
Diane stood with her hands folded behind her back and observed her surroundings. She said nothing for now but acknowledged the captain's statement with a curt nod.
The half-Vulcan put her palms together in a traditional Vulcan greeting. "Well met, Captain. I'm Marisa Sandoval."
"First off, twelve hours ago the former CO went to the surface to make contact and to start negotiations that we had come here for. He was shot by a sniper, and transferred to the nearest Starbase along with the second officer. Not to mention the Resolution has an entirely new crew just coming a refit."
'It never rains but it pours,' Diane thought to herself. Out loud she offered, "Sounds like we have our work cut out for us."
"Morale will be a bit low," Marisa added. "Have you discovered why he was shot?" she asked.
"We haven't been back down, we were on our way down to determine what exactly happened when news of your arrival came in." Cameron stated, "Which leads me to your duties. The away team has already been assembled and awaiting your arrival in the shuttle bay. Figure out who did it, and motives." He turned to the Intel Officer. "I want you down there as well, since we are close to Klingon space, I want you to find out if there is any Klingon connection to this attack, or the civil unrest."
"Yes, sir," Marisa said. She began to mentally run down a list of things she wanted to know, ost of which would hopefully be answered on the planet.
Diane nodded again, "Of course Captain. Curious, who is assigned to the away team with us?" She wanted to know what assets and skill sets they were accompanying into a hostile situation.
"Lt Commander Tony Johnson, Lt Talshi Carey, chief security assistant chief science officer, Lt Sky Janson Chief Counsellor, as well as some of the security crew men. We have not had the chance to have an intel officer onboard, so I am glad you are here. Maybe you have some connections, that can tell us what's going on."
"It's been a while since I've been in the field Captain, but I'll do the best I can." It was not ideal for a starship to be out on a mission like this with no intelligence staff. Diane realized she may have some recruiting to do. "If I could send out a couple of communiques before we leave, I might be able to gain a few clues."
Thinking about it, "Would it be better for you to remain on ship?" He brought a list of empty offices up. "There is a group of offices on deck eight if you wish to set up shop? We can make sure it has an independent communication array."
Diane considered the captain's offer. "Thank you Captain, but I feel a sense of urgency for our current mission. I can set up shop, as it were, later."
"Understood, I've been thinking of my options, seeing as who I have I believe you are my best candidate to be my second officer as well.."
That was a surprise Diane didn’t expect. Her eyebrows went up and down once. She really had no reason to refuse. “I accept.”
"As the rest of the away team is waiting in the shuttle bay, would you like us to leave right away?" Marisa asked.
"They have been informed of your arrival and will be there within the next fifteen minutes. I have not informed the surface, I don't want them knowing when we head down, so they know of when to target another one of the crew."
"A wise precaution," Marisa said. From what little she'd seen, she liked the way Captain Grayson was handling a tough situation.
"Captain," Diane spoke up again hoping not to be out of turn, "Does the Resolution have any tactical armor onboard? It might not be a bad idea considering there's a sniper loose down there."
"Everything that will be needed for the mission is already loaded into the shuttle. If the Chief hasn't my wife will make sure, she is also the assistant chief Security. After what happened, I wouldn't be surprised if carpet bombing the area was on her mind if there wasn't casualties."
Diane slowly nodded, "I like her already."
"I also know she doesn't like waiting, if there is no questions. I shall let you get to it."
"Yes, sir." Marisa hoped he was exaggerating a little about the carpet bombing. Either way, she'd find out soon enough. The trip down to the planet would hopefully give her enough time to review the report on what happened. She gave the Captain a half-bow and turned to grab her go kit and head for the shuttle.
"We'll get to it then," Diane replied, "We'll update you as events warrant."
