Walking into Sickbay Sky paused to look around, last time she’d spent any particular time here was months ago, before her break for serious Counselling. Now here she was to check in with Rutherford. She smiled and waved as she saw Pix.
“Hi Pix! Seems like forever since I last checked in, is Rutherford available?”
Pix made a direct buzz around Sky twice checking her and the babies before encompassing Sky's neck as much as a 6 inch tall being can.
"I hear a new mother out in my Sick Bay." Milton came from the Ready Stock area. "Hallo Sky Love." Moving over to embrace his beloved friend. "Are they starting to squirm for room in there?" Milton Did a little flurry with his hand to produce a wrapped chocolate. "Adorian of course, you are a good mother to be and deserve a bit extra."
In Truth he had been meaning to come around more but the Loss of Diane had hit him harder than he might realize.
"Well, since the Father is busy with mission planning the 'Father of the Bride will have to do for now." He winked.
“That will do just nicely” Sky smiled warmly. “To be honest I’m starting to find it painful on occassion, there’s times when these two must be lying awkwardly, it makes my nerve endings fire off!”
"Let us see..." Putting his hand upon her stomach to gauge size and shape. "The two life sharing ones are of a good size if the Biobed confirms," He motioned to the nearest Biobed. Care to take the Number One rated scanner in Sick Bay and my personal favourite?" He stood ready to help Sky should she need as any gentleman should.
Sky nodded, moving to sit on the biobed with accepted help from Rutherford she gently lay back. “I have to say I’m curious to see the twins scan this time.”
Milton set the scan for the 5 Million Cyles per second* to sharpen the imaging as Milton moved the probe around Sky like moving a camera for the angled shots. With this method the two individual fetus could be brought into sharper focus and show which is larger and even the fingers and toes of each child. However as the limited room with twins their legs were crossed so not to reveal the individual sex of the fetus.
"They are growing normal." Milton report. "Which can be a concern given you are a petete woman and the time when the babies turn naturally for birth. One might not get position and we may have to do a Cesarian when you come to bring them forth." He warned. "Just a possibility that I should bring up and the actuality of it will be determined by how well you fare at the time of birth."
Sky nodded. “I’ve been reading up on twin pregnancies, I did read that Caesarean is a possibility.” She paused. “In your medical opinion would it be best to have a Caesarean anyway? I want to make the best decision for the health and well-being of the twins, I don’t want to put either of them at risk. Having lost a baby to miscarriage before I’d never forgive myself if anything happened.”
Milton sat on the Biobed edge beside Sky.
"I am both your doctor and your friend." He began. "As such I will tell you that the objective I follow is what is best for all three of you." He took her hand and gave a squeeze. "I know you want the babies to be priority should catastrophic conditions come up, you are healthy and the babaies are as well." He smiled. "I do not read up and try to make Counselor suggestions, trust in me that what I recommend is for the best. No need you to worry on anything but doing what you have been to care for you all." Leaned in closer. "Family is always first, you will be taken care of and those little ones brought into the universe for all to enjoy happy little noises."
Sky smiled a gentle, happy and relieved smile. “Thank you Rutherford, I honestly don’t know what I’d do without you!” She looked towards Pix, “You too Pix. I trust you both to be there for me when the time comes, not that I will want to overwhelm you Pix.”
Pix flew to her shoulder and gave Sky a hug.
"I kind of need to be there technically." Milton winked. "I will be bringing the little ones into the universe."
“Naturally!” Sky grinned. “I’ll be honest I’m completely terrified of giving birth! I know it sounds rediculous but it’s how I feel. As a Counsellor I’d be reassuring my patients it’s perfectly normal to be scared.”
"Naturally anything the first time is scary; I would be more concerned if you thought it easy." Milton chuckled. "You will have family the process is not comfortable nad you will need; in my experiance, to concentrate in not crushing the Father's hand or blaming him for 'Doing this to me' is common."
Pix brightened as she giggled.
It is a scanned rule that Pix does not shed anything harmful so she can be within the sterilization field cheering you on as well.”
Sky smiled feeling more at ease. “That would be wonderful. In the meantime I’m lassoed to the ship, no away missions or landing parties.” She sighed. “Still better safe than sorry!”
"You need to just go with it; after birth you will not want to leave them alone." He joked.
Sky smiled. “You’re probably right on that one! Besides it’s going to be a very big learning curve.”
"Welcome to parenthood." Milton chuckled. "Or so I am told."
Sky grinned. “Thanks Rutherford. Am I good to go?”
"You have always been good and you are healthy enough to go." Milton joked. "Be well and call if anything even twinges funny."
Sky nodded. “I will, that’s a promise!” She smiled warmly as she waved her goodbyes and headed on her way, relieved that all was going to plan.
