Medical check-in

Posted on Fri May 23rd, 2025 @ 7:38am by Lieutenant Commander Rutherford (RJ) Milton & Lieutenant Zara Kingston Ph.D.

Mission: Those who are left behind
Location: Main Sickbay

Zara had just met with the XO and was walking towards the Main Sickbay for her physical. She was hoping this would be a quick process as she was eager to get to work. The doors of Main Sickbay slid open and she proceeded inside, hoping to catch the next available medical officer who could perform her medical evaluation.

The 6 in tall Missile streaked towards the new person; arcing up slightly to eye level to hover. With a smile so bright it reached her eyes she waved a greeting to the new person. Her long white dress and blonde hair with a soft golden glow to her.

The grin made one almost hear the greeting of 'Hiya."

The Pixie like being known as 'Pix' was making herself known as usual.

Zara stared at the 6-inch-tall person, speechless for a second, not realizing what was in front of her. "Oh--um, hello. I'm here for my physical." She paused and shook her head with a laugh. "Sorry, where are my manners? I'm Zara. Nice to meet you."

"Sorry, sometimes Pix is just happy to have visitors. The tall Medical Chief spoke as he came towards the new person. "I am Doc Milton, you can call Doc if easier like most do."

Milton have to offer a smile but not a handshake as Vulcan do not like touch as the are 'Touch Sensitive.'

"A pleasure to meet you, doctor," Zara replied. "I just transferred to the Resolution, so I'm in the middle of my onboarding process."

Pix fluttered back to sit of Milton's shoulder.

"Ah the only time I get to be social is injury or mandatory checks." He chuckled. "No one just drops by for tea."

With a chuckle he turned to the Biobeds.

"You may take your choice , your comfort during is a point we consider." Gesturing towarsd the two closes Biobeds."

Zara chose the closest biobed near her and took a seat on top of it. "So, how long have you served aboard the Resolution, doctor? And any tips you have for a newbie serving on a starship...I'm all ears."

"Not as long as some and longer than others." He poked as he followed her, taking an over- all glance at Kingston. "Just be yourself and have a good sense of humor will get you farther..."

With a small flurry of his right hand a rosebud of White appeared.

"If you prefer a lollipop, that takes a little more concentration." He winked as he offered her the rose. "This is a painless processor Pix gets mad at me." He gesture with his head to the Little one. "She is our patient advocate."

Zara took the rose. "A doctor who does magic? You don't see that every day."

"There is an old question on Earth, 'Do you believe in Magic in a young girl's heart?" He mused. "I am aware Pix knows the answer but is not telling." He chuckled. What if I told you I have a Mermaid as well?" overtly nothing the initial Biobed readings as he spoke.

The Klingon/Human smiled. "Then I'd say this sounds like a fascinating ship. How long have you been interested in that?"

"Pix has been years." Milton reach to the right wrist to take a manual pulse as he spoke. "The Mermaid is far less; Newly weds and all." Giving a positive expression. "Could say I was captured by her charms; we had Elvis and all the trimmings in Vegas." He chuckled.

"You know, I taught Klingon love poetry at the Daystrom Institute," said Zara, "and part of the curriculum we read quite a bit about romance stories occurring in fantastical realms."

"Las Vegas is said to be a place of dreams." Milton chuckled as he continued his soft exam. "Do you have any ailments I should know about that might not be in your records" A routine question. "Allergies I should find concerning or the like?"

"Some of my peers that I keep up with from the Academy say I'm allergic to serving in the field," she said with a smile. "Don't suppose you have a drug for that, doctor?"

"I could try the Booster shot for Agoraphobia?" Milton made eye contact and winked. "Or I could let Pix go along as a night light if you get startled in the forest at night?"

What would your father think? she thought. A drug to feel confident when you're Klingon? She realized she was just staring with a blank expression at the doctor. "Oh, no, sorry. I don't think that's necessary, but thank you."

Milton chuckled and shook his head.

"Glad to see you do not have a phobia of open spaces." He stepped back a step. "Extend you right arm for me please." He wanted to check the limbs next.

Zara extended her right arm for Dr. Milton. "Do you have any phobias?" she asked.

"Everyone has Phobias." Milton was more concentrated on his examination as he spoke. "Though I would have to say my worst is spiders; was bit on eyelid as a kid." He mentioned. "Eye lid puffs up so bad could not open it for three days." Switching arms as he thought. "It was a small spider but I do not favor them as a ... creature."

"Ah, spiders," the Klingon/Human said with a smile. "My mother also was not a fan of spiders." Her smile slightly faded, thinking back to her childhood, most of which included Klingon father figures since hers had died in battle. These father figures hadn't allowed her to feel fear. "Phobias weren't something I experienced publicly as a kid, but I guess that's for the ship's counselor to figure out."

"Mind and body are one." Milton stepped back to run the probe a bit. "What you think and feel can affect the body; Hence the Hypertension s that cause a domino affect." Smiling to his patent. "Not that you have any signs of that but just a note that there is a reason Counselors are assigned to Medical after all.

Pix moved closer to Kingston; the little face grinning ear to ear. looking at the person in front of her gave a thumbs up in support as to say 'You got this."

Zara smiled at both the doctor and Pix. "Thank you for the confidence boost."

Pix glanced at Doc over her shoulder and nod.

Having run the probe over the pattern and finding nothing out of the ordinary he snapped the tricorder closed.

"Now for the Disclaimers and legalities." Milton commented. Physically you are cleared for another year of duty pending any injury incurred during that stint." He began. The Medical doors are always open so should you have need to come and have snacks and a cup of refreshment Pix and I are here often."

Pix nod and winked,

"AS for the Counselor, I have the deepest respect for our Chief and can personally vouch for her. Pix likes her as well." He pocketed the probe and Tricorder to offer a handshake. "Go to duty with Both Pix and my Blessing on your Physical."

Zara hopped down from the biobed and gave a soft nod to the doctor and Pix. "Thank you. And if I do happen to be back in sickaby, I hope it's only for snacks." With that, the Klingon/Human scientist walked out to finally begin her assignment aboard the Resolution.

Pix hovered near him and the jingle of bell sounds as she 'spoke' with hands on her hips.

"Yes, look forward to some tea later," He winked to Pix before turning to go to the tasks he had.
