Reflections

Posted on Fri Apr 18th, 2025 @ 12:53am by Commander Antonia 'Tony" Stoffels

Mission: Those who are left behind
Location: the bar
Timeline: Colonies and their Clusters

Toni sat looking out of the window, staring into space. The first meeting with the new Intel officer had brought back a lot of bad memories. Memories she thought she had put behind her, yet as she sat there her thoughts drifted back to that day so long ago now.

She was terrified, her arm and her leg hurt from the burn wounds, and it was still hard to breathe. The next moment her mother was there, covered in soot. But still Mummy being there meant she was safe. finally safe . Yet that wasn't the case for everybody she loved.
“ Mummy.” she murmured. “ Kay and Joanna, they are so hurt. you have to help.” The last thing she remembered was her mother promising to do just that.

She woke up again in the hospital, hearing her parents softly talking, thinking she was still asleep.
“ I just heard, Kay is going to make it. Joanna died.” She heard her father say. “Wain and Denni are devastated.”
Toni heard her mother utter a soft moan. “How are they going to get past that? Do you have any leads?”
“Hold on.” Her father said as he apparently listened to a report in his ear piece. And afterwards he cursed softly under his breath. “It seems we have a mole. The Klingons got the addresses of our safe houses from a bloody intel officer. We have him in custody. I will have to go and see him.”
"Go, I will stay here with Toni." Her mother said.
She closed her eyes again and drifted back to sleep.

That horrible time when Toni had been six and Kay three had been the beginning of both their fathers vendetta with Starfleet Intel. Neither man had ever trusted starfleet intelligence again and when they ran the starbase they had set up their own intelligence section. Even to this day, so many years later general Stoffels still had problems trusting starfleet intelligence and although Toni’s distrust was not as large she was heavily influenced by what happened in the past and respect for her father.

With a sigh she returned to the presence, finished her coffee and returned to duty.
