Mission:
Those who are left behind
Location: Ready Rood
Lieutenant Commander Tony Johnson made his way to the ready room that was once occupied by Captain Carey. A few days ago, he had been in this very officer briefing the Captain on their discovery. Now, Johnson found himself about to enter the office of a new Commanding Officer sitting by that desk. In all honesty, he found himself curious to see what Captain Stoffels had decided to do what the place. Pressing the chime, he awaited to be called in.
"Come in!" Toni said from behind her desk where she was already drowning in paperwork. And already in a not to good mood about drowning in paperwork.
Entering the office, Johnson stopped in his tracks, realizing that nothing had been changed at all. Clearly, Stoffels hadn't truly accepted the promotion. "I hope this isn't a bad time."
"Oh no, come in, glad to leave the paperwork for a moment. Please sit down." She gestured him over. "Do you want something to drink?"
"No, thank you. Just wanted to bring something to your attention that I was discussing with Captain Carey before the change of command."
"Yes of course and if you have time maybe we can have our settling in chat? I plan to have them with all the department heads."
He smiled. "Sounds great to me."
"Great. Now your business first, that is why you came to see me afterall." Toni did get up to get a cup of tea for herself.
"The Dominion have fortified their forces on a world in the Loval system." He had brought with him, which he handed over to Toni. "The Loval system is agricultural at best. Which leads me to believe that there is something serious going on out there."
Toni nodded. "I will make sure that information is sent to regional headquarters. It is not in a direction we are travelling in, so it will be up to them to decide what to do about it. Good find though."
"Lieutenant Milton was the one who initially brought it to my attention with some questions. I can't take all the credit for this one."
"I will be sure to thank her as well." Toni leaned back in her chair. "Now, on to other things. How do you feel to the changes that have been made to your position?"
"Honestly, I am happy to be back in security," he admitted. "Going through the current roster and the transfers that just came on board. A few young officers and many young enlisted. Looking at the age, their kids."
"I know, they keep getting younger." Toni grimaced. "Few things. Are you happy to take on Intel as well together with Lt Commander Tar-Lexros?" She asked first.
Taking a second to think about it, Johnson nodded. "Taking on Intel sounds good to me. I already have the security clearance."
"Good. Captain Carey left instructions that he wanted you both to handle Intel. Which would be good. For now we have Lt commander Pallara helping out but he will have to return to his own duties at some point. He can help you get started though." She hesitated. "That brings me to lt London. Do you want to keep her on or want me to find another spot for her?"
"I have no issue with keeping her around. But what is the overall plan for the Lieutenant? There's no Marine attachment on the Resolution."
"I have no idea, that was something that Dave was in charge of, I think he discussed it with her last marine commander. It is somewhere on my to do pile to look into. Kay won't mind, she is pretty easy going. Just use her where you can and she will learn something new."
"Based on my conversation with her earlier today," the Commander countered. "I'm going to have to disagree with easy going at this point. The Lieutenant is being passed around this ship with no purpose. She takes pride in being a Marine and doesn't want to be in the Navy. But with no Marine attachment on the Resolution, where does that leave her?"
"I will try to get in touch with her former marine commander when I have some time. It was his wish that she serve on a ship. But I believe it was meant to be in counselling."
"In the meantime, I have her mentoring Ensign Turner."
"That sounds like something she would enjoy." Toni hesitated. "Will you keep an eye on her?"
"Will do, Captain."
"Thank you. Now if there is ever anything please come to me or commander Milton straight away, we are here to help and I know we are placing a great deal on your shoulders."
Tony nodded. "I will definitely take you up on that offer."
