Having read through Wagnor’s notes Sky was surprised to see that he too was an ex-patient of Tony’s. Wanting to know more about Soran she decided to ask Tony. Making her way to Tony’s office she pressed the chime and waited for a response. Walking in she offered a warm smile.
“Hi Tony, May I talk to you for a minute? It’s regarding Soran Wagnor.”
"I wondered when you would show up." Tony gestured to a seat. "Have you met him yet?"
Sky nodded as she moved across to a seat and sat down. “He came for his boarding psych evaluation. He’s certainly been through a lot, I’m not surprised that he doesn’t trust counsellor’s very much.”
"I did not look at his psych record as a curtesy to you. So I don't know what he has been through since he was last my patient. Which was years ago and we became friends after that. But if you want to share and if you want me to offer some supervision on this case I will. It is up to you. He might have even more trouble trusting a telepath like yourself."
“Actually we got along okay.” Sky offered a smile. “It was a little strange as I can’t sense him, whatever changes they made to him shield his mind and emotions from me. Though from what he told me it’s not a pleasant sensation for anyone who tries to read him, or from his point of view. What can you tell me about Soran?”
"He does not trust easy. Not a wonder after all that was done to him. I am very glad you got along with him from the first session. During our first session he threw a paperweight at me." She smiled. "Like Xavier it was not easy to get him to open up and talk about himself. And to work through his issues. I had to use medication to stabilize him. That together with daily sessions when we were both at the starbase. But it got him to were he could function again as a person and an officer. Like I said I did not look at his record. Was this a one time check up or do you think he needs therapy again?"
“To be honest I’m not sure yet” Sky shrugged her shoulders. “I’d like to get to know Soran outside of the Counsellor’s office, in a more open environment. As you know counselling sessions can be counterproductive in some patients, it just makes them want to avoid opening up. It sounds like you have a good relationship with him?”
"Yes I do. He turned out to be one of my few very good friends. Of course that was after he quit being my patient. It took us a while to really get to know each other but I can tell you he is a good man.
Sky nodded. “I have no doubt about that. He’s been through so much, but you’ve helped him get back on track. Are there any problems you think I should watch out for?”
"If.. and I am only saying if there is a problem he will start showing signs of PTSD. And that is bad. He has been in trouble before for lashing out at other crewmen. We have to make sure that does not happen again."
Sky nodded. “Okay between us we should be able to watch out for problems. You know Soran better than I do so you’ll pick up on any worrying signs.”
"Yes. But I would tell him that I was helping you look out for him. I promised never to lie to him. He would feel terribly betrayed if I did that to his back." She paused. "Do you think I should look at his recent file?" She was a practicing psychiatrist so she had the right.
“I don’t know Tony, I’d rather not make Soran feel he’s being watched all the time.” Sky sighed. “plus I don’t want to put a spoke in your friendship either. Leave it to me, if I need help I’ll ask.”
"Ok. I think I prefer that. But the moment you run into trouble with him you let me know. His mental health has to come first. I worked too hard with him years ago to risk it now."
“Of course I will” Sky smiled. “I’m not in the habit of risking the mental health of my patients, especially if there’s help on hand.”
"I like that about you. That you are not defensive at all. Or worried about having me on board. I know plenty of counsellors who would not have liked that."
“I’m not an a-typical Counsellor” Sky grinned. “I do things my way, and I’m not threatened by the presence of a senior officer who also happens to be a counsellor. In-fact I welcome it, besides you’re still evaluating me for Starfleet!” She grinned a wry grin.
"True. In all the commotion I had almost forgotten about that." Tony grinned. "I guess that is a good sign."
“I certainly hope so!” Sky moved to stand up. “Anyway, I have to get back to work, thank you for discussing Soran with me. I’ll call if I need you.”
"Great. Any time, Sky." Tony said.
