Mission:
The Colonists
Location: Shuttle bay
=Diane’s Quarters=
“Do you hafta go?” Toby asked wistfully.
“Fraid so kiddo. I’ll be back soon and P’Tang will take good care of you while I’m gone.”
Toby rolled his eyes. He was not looking forward to being babysat by a seemingly ancient Vulcan nurse from sickbay. “Oh. All right.”
“I know how you feel about her, but be nice, she’s doing me a favor and who knows, you might even learn something about Vulcan culture.” Diane zipped up her small duffle and slung it over her shoulder. “She’ll be here any minute. You behave while I’m gone, understand.”
Toby nodded dutifully. “I’ll behave. You just make sure you come back in one piece.”
Diane smiled. There was a lot of his father’s personality in him. She hugged him tight, “I will kiddo. Don’t you worry. The team is full of very capable people.”
=Shuttle Bay=
Peterson walked into the shuttlebay doors, he had a chat with the Assistant chief, and had agreed somewhat to keep his opinions to himself.
Aalis had squared away Lonén with her husband and she was ready to be gone for a couple of days for their away mission. She was stowing her weapon as she walked into the shuttle bay. "Peterson," she greeted.
"Lieutenant." Peterson replied.
Diane walked into the shuttle deck and looked around. She checked that the appropriate cargo had been loaded onto the runabouts and then headed towards the one they were flying down on. “Everything seems ready on the other two runabouts,” she said as she entered, “Everyone here yet?”
"We are waiting on Lieutenant Boucher." Peterson replied.
CJ walked into the bay carrying a rifle case with a hand phaser holstered on his hip. "Hey I'm time, I can't help but if you guys are a bunch of early birds."
Aalis had her small bag tucked behind her back. "Everyone has been briefed and the security team have assembled and are already aboard," Aalis added to the assessment of who was where.
Sky was sitting in her seat onboard the shuttle feeling decisively off colour, thanks to morning sickness that was anything but confined to the morning. It wasn’t like she’d actually had to rush off to the bathroom, it was more queasiness than anything else. She’d brought along a hypo of medication just incase it was needed, but she wasn’t going to use it unless she had to.
"All right, let's get the pre-flight done and take off," Diane took the co-pilot's seat.
After stowing her small bag in the locker in the bunk area of the runabout, Aalis moved to the command well and sat down at the small station that she would have control over the weapons and started her pre-flight checks. Once she finished, she called out, "Weapons are good and in standby. Cargo has been loaded and everyone is now aboard."
Diane worked the comms console, "Shuttle Bay control, this is runabout Cuyahoga, we're ready to depart."
=/\=Very good Cuyahoga, whenever you're ready.=/\= came the reply.
Diane nodded to their pilot for this endeavor, "Very good, Thorne, take us out."
Lieutenant Thorne expertly piloted the runabout from the Resolution's landing bay.
As the Runabouts made their way out of the shuttlebay towards Space, Aalis looked out the window as the Galaxy Class started to appear further and further. She nodded towards the ship slightly as a thought to her family and then turned back to the console to ensure that there were no surprises on their way to the colony.
Watching as the ship got ever smaller in the view Sky felt an odd pang of, what could only be described as, home sickness. Knowing she was far away from Xavier and Tal, it was odd as it never bothered her before. It seemed it was something she was going to have to get used to.
Peterson watched as the other shuttle flew in front. Then entered warp, seconds later they followed.
After the jump to warp, the three runabouts made their way to the colony. The discussion was sparse making the trip uncommonly quiet. Diane wondered to herself if that foretold anything of how the mission would go.
