Mission: The Mentarin Effect

Cameron rushed into the sickbay, "What the hell happened down there?" He asked as he noticed them just beaming in.

"I have no damn idea," Johnson responded. "We cleared the crowd. And were about to enter the building, then a shot rang out from out of nowhere. Sir, I need to get back down to the surface immediately with a team. Whatever security they had monitoring the crowd sucks and I'm not confident about their investigation skills as well."

Yvette looked at Johnson, "You're not the only one 'Commander." She had her back to the biobed. She couldn't bring herself to look at the Captain, as the medical team swarmed him, in their efforts to assess his injuries and treat him.

"Commander Greyson sir I also respectfully request to return to the surface. We came here to try and help this race and I think I might have some ideas how we can do it. However I need to talk to them and see if they have the experience needed for what I am thinking." Said James calmly

"That is not a concern right now Lt." Cameron replied. "As for returning to the surface, we will do it, as soon as we deem it safe to do so." He turned, noticing the body, and the medical officers surrounding the bed.

"I can have a team ready to return in less than thirty minutes," Tony spoke up. "The longer we wait the trail goes cold."

"I will need to notify starfleet of this. Then I will lead a team down to the planet and get to the bottom of this." Cameron replied as he turned back to the group. "Get several shuttles ready we will fly bys, we are not getting caught on the ground and an easy target."

Kane breathed out heavily. It wasn't a sigh. And it certainly wasn't relief. She knew perfectly well what she had to tell him. And she hated it. And, even worse, she knew that when she said what she needed to say, he'd know that she hated saying it as well. She shook her head, and said, "I can't let you do that."

Cameron turned. "And why not commander."

"Given the current medical condition of the Captain," Eve began - wording it this way seemed like less of a pill to swallow than the less wordy alternatives, "Starfleet protocol places you in Command." This she said through somewhat gritted teeth. Anyone in the room could see that she was struggling with this realisation. "Therefore, your place is on the ship." She looked at Wayne, and then at Johnson. "I'll lead the team."

Tony simply nodded in agreement with Commander Kane's decision. Until the Captain was back on his feet Greyson place was on the ship.

Thinking about it. Cameron nodded. "Fine." He turned to Kane. "We have to talk."

"If you say so, Commander," Eve replied.

Cameron looked towards James and Johnson.

"I'll get my people ready and see you all in the shuttle bay," Johnson spoke. After that, Tony exited the room.

Rutherford burst into the Sickbay; heading to the SUpply Cabinet. "I am prepping a Crash kit and team ready." He said while crossing. "Once the shuttle clears the atmosphere the Captain can be transported here to Operating Table one." He explained in a rush. "Sorry I was late, had an injury of a compound Fracture I had dealt with." He looked up. "But I am ahead of the patient so there is a silver lining."

Cameron nodded, "Apparently its a shot to the back Doc." He replied as he looked to the bed.

"I will get Operation One prepped and ready." Rutherford added as he headed towards the Operating Room. "Get Team one into the 'O-R' right away." He started.

Cameron nodded, "Kane you are with me. Ready room."
