Letting Sky and Tal in

Posted on Sun Mar 23rd, 2025 @ 10:28am by Captain Xavier Carey & Lieutenant Sky Jansen-Carey

Mission: Those who are left behind
Location: Various
Timeline: After Meeting with Molek

OOC; thought I'd run this in conjunction with the Molek post, I'm figuring Xavier will at some point walk in to that meeting and remove Sky from it. This could follow on from that. :-)

(IC)

As they walked away from the brig together, Sky gave her husband a curious look. "Did I do something wrong? Is there some reason you don't want me talking to Molek?"

"Despite his and I's past... i can't overlook that he's still the opposing team." Xavier replied, it was more than that. It brought him some wounds, that had not been settled even after the time that has passed.

Sky nodded, she knew Xavier well enough by now to know when there was more to the story. “Do you want to talk about it? Not with a Counsellor, but as your wife? It’s obvious you didn’t plan on me ever standing face to face with Molek, if I hadn’t sensed what I did I probably wouldn’t have talked to him at all.”

"Its something i should have discussed with you previously. Something... you have a right to know... about my past."

“Your past..” Sky nodded understanding that it was obviously something difficult if Xavier hadn’t told her already. “Let’s head home and you can tell me all about it.”

"What has Molek told you."

“He asked me if you told me about the story about your father.” Sky gave Xavier a curious look. “I told him no, but I was sure you’d tell me when you were ready.”

"The only one who knew about my father on the ship before today, is Tony. Its how Tony and I came to know each other."

Sky nodded. “What about Talsi? I take it she knows about your father?”

"She... well you know her... she is not one to pry, she questions, but she knows if something is uncomfortable, she won't bring it up."

Sky nodded. “Is that a hint for me not to ask?” She gave him a curious look. “If it’s traumatic then I can always speak to Tony, with your permission of course.”

"I’ve already spoken to her about it. It’s best I do it."

“I would prefer to hear it from you, rather than Tony anyway” Sky offered a smile pausing as they reached their quarters as the door swished open. Walking in she took a seat on the sofa, motioning for Xavier to join her.

Xavier walked over. Sitting next to her, he leaned back. "You know how I have never talked about my parents. Avoided it at all costs..."

Sky nodded. "I know, I've never asked because I knew there'd come a time when you'd be ready to talk about them. I realise this probably isn't the time you'd have chosen. I'm listening so talk to me."

"Well the reason I dont talk about my father, is that it’s actually classified. He is responsible for countless cardassian deaths, not just any cardassians... but he sought out and slaughtered countless civilian, Children, women, and the elderly. Molek himself, was just a teenager when we came up to his camp."

Sky gave a surprised look. “He did all of that? I know I asked, but if it’s classified should you even be telling me the story? Not that I’m going to tell anyone.”

"Considering, we are married." Xavier replied. "I think you are an exception."

Sky smiled and nodded. “I appreciate that, not one word will ever leave this room that I promise you.” She offered a supportive squeeze of his hand. “So tell me everything, I want to fully understand.”

"Well I wasn't out of the academy very long... and the ship I was serving on was ordered to pick up some special operations team that was being sent on a classified mission. Little did I know that when we picked them up... I knew my father was special operations, but not to the extent that I found out later." Xavier replied as he turned to the door watching Tal walk in, and as per usual. strip down to nothing. Then walk over to them, kissing each of them before taking a seat next to them.

Sky smiled as she returned Tal’s kiss before turning her attention back to Xavier. “So the majority of his career was more or less hidden from you.”

"Right before they got to their destination my father approached me, and asked me to join them on this mission, it was here where he explained that he wanted me to carry on what his father had taught him. And his father before him. I was to become the next in line of a group of individuals that made the hard decisions, for the betterment of the federation. I didn't know what to think, but i did not think it was as it turned out to be." Standing up he walked over to the counter pulling out his whiskey bottle. Something reserved for moments where he couldn't get these memories out of his mind. These past few days it was pulling on him. It was down to half way. Taking a drink.

Sky frowned but said nothing, what Xavier was talking about was hard enough without her scolding him for drinking. “I see” she nodded. “What happened next?”

"When we got just out of cardassian space, we took a shuttle which they had provided, it wasn't one I was familiar with, my father had just described it as a new starfleet intelligence shuttle. Which it was actually." He paused as he sat back down. "En route he told me about a group of VIPs, that were responsible for countless deaths, currently going on, how it was a military installation deep in a dense jungle of a planet. I agreed the threat would need to be handled, and once we did what we arrived to do, I realized it wasn't what he described. It was the elderly those who couldn't fight. The kids. Some barely out of diapers. When I confronted him... he claimed the elderly were those responsible, for past atrocities while the kids would be responsible for future ones. They were helpless, and by no means in the form to put up a fight. I joined starfleet to protect the innocent. The weak, even if it meant they were on the other side."

“He wanted to just kill them? To murder a generation for something they might do, rather than what had already been?” Sky shook her head. “That sounds crazy!”

Tal paused, "Its not unheard of."

"Anyway... I decided I couldn't just sit back and let it happen. First chance I seen, as they were knelt down at my fathers knees, and his teams... I took the opportunity to supply the guards I deemed to be willing with weapons, and when I took out my father and two of his men, we managed to save the entire group." Xavier replied as he paused. "The look on my fathers face, as he died was one of betrayal. The last words out of his mouth was how I doomed the federation and sided with the cardassians. I sided with the innocents."

Sky took hold of Xavier’s hand as she looked at him. “I’m so sorry, no one should have to choose like that. You did what you had to do, but I fully understand now. I’m sorry for dredging up old memories, and reopening old wounds.” She shook her head. “How could your father put you in such a situation.” Her comment was more of a statement than a question. “At least I know what your relationship with our Cardassian guest is about now.”

"It is something that I should have mentioned before, I mean family is some of the first discussions people have." He paused. "After the incident, I was held as POW for a few weeks before they agreed to contact starfleet, and set up a rendezvous with me considering that the people that i helped save were the families of the cardassian ruling council." He paused, for a moment. "Molek himself is the son of the former first minister of the cardassian high council. I found out after I arrived at Cardassia Prime on request of the cardassian council. One lowly ensign at the time being invited to the cardassian chambers for recognition. Considering what we are going through right now. It is still one of the highlights of my career. I did end up having a mental break, which is where Tony came in. She was my therapist for weeks while I was in the hospital due to a mental episode."

Sk nodded. “I understand now why the two of you are so close.” She smiled. “I’ll always be here for you, you know that. It’s not my place as therapist, but it is as your wife.” She paused. “So what happens with Molek now? Are you leaving him in the brig? Maybe he could be put in guest quarters under guard instead?”

"It would be considered conflict of interest." Xavier replied, "Having a personal connection to someone who is an enemy."

Sky nodded. “Of course, then I guess while he’s here he has to stay put. Just why is he here anyway? Does he have a reason other than to speak with you?”

"Just happens to be one of the survivors from one of the cardassian ships. Just a coincidence." He paused, "I hope."

"So do I, for your sake" Sky offered an understanding smile.

"Been a long day. Im going to hit the hay..." He replied standing, leaning over he kissed her. "Love you." He turned to Tal, kissed her.

“I’ll join you soon, the twins will be needing a feed soon so I might as well wait until they’ve been fed.” Sky smiled.
