Mission:
Those who are left behind
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Morning after Family Life
Walking into Sickbay Sky couldn’t help but feel a little…no, a lot, stupid. With her body recovered and ready she’d made love with Xavier before giving a thought to getting back on birth control first. Now she was looking for Rutherford to sort emergency contraception. Stupid really wasn't the word, and she was sure Xavier would agree.
“Hi Rutherford” she offered a warm smile. “Can I have a word, in private?”
"Always willing to give a tea break with Family." Milton winked and guide her towards his office. "You look 'raidiant," He noted. "Getting back into the swing of life I think?"
Sky nodded as she walked into Rutherford’s office. “A little too much.” She paused as she took a seat. “I have made the most stupid basic mistake! Xavier and I we…well more like I, got carried away wanting to get back to how we were, and well…I’m not back on my birth control yet!” She sighed. “I’m not ready for more babies yet Rutherford.”
"I have fresh Iced tea, care for a glass as we talk?" He offered her a chair at a small table for time of consultation holding the chair to seat her. "Modern Medicine is an art form, so the first stroke would be to discreetly ask how long ago?"
He winked.
"You are not the first New mother who got a little too affectionate with her husband, so let us get the facts then the possible cure?" Milton assured.
Sky took a deep breath, and nodded. “Iced tea would be lovely, thank you. As for how long ago, just last night. I’d tried before that, but I didn’t feel ready. I just wanted to please Xavier, and you know what it’s like.” She gave him an embarrassed look.
"Love does tend to have it's own timelines." Milton pour her a glass after adding some ice. "There is a lot we can do from a womb flush..." He tilt his head and cringe slightly. "Best results but there will be no urges for a time due to discomfort. But nearly perfect record with clearing any doubts."
He poured himself a glass.
"Though extreme there are several more noninvasive treatments. A subtle gel that you can insert in a private room here in sick Bay with or without a nurse's help." He sat across from her. "Or the ready old method of some contraceptive tablets and call me in the morning?" He chuckled. 12 to 24 hours later we put you back on the monthly Star Fleet contraceptive injections and problem solved."
He put up a hand to get another second.
"Rissa has some similar requests and I am well versed in how important planning can be with newborns and infants."
Sky nodded. “I think I would prefer the old method of tablets.” She offered a smile. “After giving birth I think my womb deserves a break, and the gel..” she shook her head. “Maybe in the future we might have more children, but I want time to get used to raising twins without worrying about anything else.”
"The gel was a temporary ; more gentle clearing but I believe you have made the right decision." Milton joked, "I say that as a Doctor, not an uncle to the twins. With the regular Federation process you need only quit taking it and soon enough the body is back to nature."
Sky smiled relieved to have something sorted. “To be honest being on maternity leave has left me feeling out of the loop, even though Xavier has been doing his best to keep me included in things. I want to get back to my duties, but at the same time I’d miss having not having my babies with me.”
"I am at a loss." Milton chuckled. "You might ask Larissa about that, she is a working mother after all."
“I never gave that a thought!” Sky nodded. “Thank you Rutherford, you’re always full of helpful ideas and suggestions. So is there anything else I need to know about the pill I’ve got to take?”
Don't eat Eggs for 24 hours, might give you indigestion." He laughed. "It is really like that, I am just warning you. It is harmless but some cases of a reaction in the stomach when eating eggs with the drug."
Sky nodded. “Okay, unusual but good to know. Will you send the prescription straight to the replicator in my office please? That’s where we’re heading next. I’m not officially back on duty yet, but I like to drop into my office to catch up on things.”
Milton tapped a PADD on the table.
"Done." Milton nod. "All your scheduled follow-up have been in the green so it will not be long til you can officially use that office again." He grinned. "It will be good to have you back around the digs again I dare say."
Sky nodded and smiled. “I’m very much looking forward to it, but as I said before I’ll miss Chloe and Connor. Still plenty of time to plan that out. Thanks again Rutherford.”
