Those who are left behind
Location: Johnson Quarters

Tony and Diana sat down to dinner in their quarters. Since the Resolution arrived at the Starbase a few days prior. Things were beginning to calm down from their previous mission. The Strategic Operations Department had been shut down, and Tony was now reassigned back to Chief Security Officer. If there was one thing he dealt with over the last couple of years was an extremely growing and diverse resume. The only bad thing was Goda Bhalet found himself being reassigned to the USS Isaiah, back in security. With the recent losses that Starfleet had taken to the Dominion. Highly experienced enlisted personnel were needed. And Goda had been a veteran of the Federation-Cardassian War. Nonetheless, he was missing his friend.
Taking a bite out of her lasagna, Diana could clearly see that her husband had quite a bit on his mind. There was several changes taken place on the Resolution. Captain Carey was being reassigned, which led to his immediate stepping down, and Commander Stoffels found herself quickly taking his place with a promotion to Captain. This couldn't be easy for any of them. Not to mention the toll it was having on the Carey's family. Would they remain on the Resolution or would they follow him? There was simply way too many unanswered questions. But with the war continuing on, those answers would be answered soon enough. "Honey, are you okay?"
Shuffling around the food on his plate, he looked up. Over the years, Tony found it useless to hide anything from his wife. "Just dealing with several changes. I know that people leave and get shipped off all the time in Starfleet. But this war seems to be making that fact happen more frequently than usual."
"Unfortunately, this war will bring more change than most people want to deal with," Diana responded. "Whether its transfers, extensive injuries or even death. And it will be worse for the young officers or enlisted who have just joined Starfleet. Their experiences have been nothing but fear, terror, and death."
"Never really looked at it from that point of view."
The wife nodded to her husband, taking a bite out of her own food. "Ensign Gregory Turner, for example. Exited the Academy a few months early in preparation for the war. And happens to be one of the few survivors. Imagine the toll that takes on a young officer."
"If I recall, Ensign Turner is assigned to security," Tony brought up. "Got to make it a point to meet with the young man. His actions were courageous and he helped to save as many people as he could."
"Yes, he did," Diana acknowledged. "But still heroics can take its toll. This advice isn't just for you, but a reminder for all the department heads. War takes its tolls on most experienced people. But you have young people who have never been shot at, let alone fighting for their lives and watching people did in large numbers around them."
"I definitely won't forget."
