Briefing part 2

Posted on Tue Nov 8th, 2022 @ 11:56pm by Fleet Admiral William Ross & Captain Xavier Carey & Ensign Jordan Peterson & Commander Antonia 'Tony" Stoffels & Lieutenant Commander Diane Doctrine & Lieutenant Sky Jansen-Carey & Lieutenant Commander Rutherford (RJ) Milton

Mission: Evacuation
Location: Conference room

Xavier watched as the two marines walked in. It was not surprising considering the mission may require additional help. He studied their ranks, and their demeanor. "Welcome... Colonel, Major.

Sky had calmed herself down, and was now paying very close attention to what was going on. With the possibility of war looming she didn’t want to miss a single detail.

Wagnor took a moment to size up the two Marines as they entered. The man had the air and look of a seasoned warrior. He noted the gloves he was wearing and wondered what he was hiding. Next he looked at the woman, she was quite attractive. He wasn't about to let her appearance fool him, some of the most beautiful women he'd known had also been the deadliest. Besides any woman who'd made it as far as Major wasn't to be trifled with. These two were clearly Special Forces, why would the Federation deploy Spec Ops for an evacuation? The Angosian had done his share of Spec Ops with his own people and after what he'd seen and done, he couldn't trust people in that line of work. He made no attempt to conceal his suspicion.

Milton did not favor Marine involvement as there is always the chance for hard; due to the nature of the Marine's purpose as a deterent to escalated negative situations. Through an evacuation and the panic that could ensue, it is logical for them, Milton just was apprehensive of any situation where there is cause for an 'Protection' force had to be employed. He knew the Marines would keep more order and therefore less casualties from paniced people so he waited to hear the plan before interjecting.

Diane, as typical for her, was off to the side observing. She not only watched the marines but the reactions of the rest of the Resolution's staff. It was not difficult for her to guess what each one present was thinking.

Tony offered the marines a welcoming smile. Having grown up around all kinds of marines she had no problem working with them whatsoever or having them involved. She did however kick Wagnor who was sitting next to her in the shins to get him to behave.

"I am sure with the magnitude of the evacuation, we will need all the help." Xavier replied offering the new arrivals a seat. "Now where were we?"

The Caitian growled. "We were going over the plan of attack for the evacuation. 50,000 in a few days."

"Ellie can offer security personnel where needed," Captain Olivaw spoke up, "We also have a little cargo space and may be able to take on around a thousand or so colonists." The Betazoid shrugged, "I know it's not much, but every little bit will help." He looked to Xavier, "Are more ships on the way by any chance?"

"Admiral?"

Ross nodded, "Just a few escorts... plus an additional five to patrol the sector as the evacuation takes place."

Sky wanted to ask questions about the mention of the possibility of war, but right now it didn’t seem the right moment to ask. Instead she sat tight lipped waiting to see what would come up.

"Has a new home for the colonists been found yet," Diane asked Admiral Ross, "We should have a place to take them, shouldn't we?"

Mitchell turned. "Doctor Bryant has said she would find us one. To accommodate the livestock we have as well."

"I have a few possibilities for a new home that I am looking into. Same spectral image of star, similar climates. We don't want it to be inhospitable. Livestock is fairly easy to accommodate, just set up a cargo bay." She shrugged eloquently. "Figuring out what makes the cows go mad and die when they leave this planet is a concern of mine, prior to relocation. I'm running assays of course..." Paige trailed off.

"Would it be possible to sedate the livestock or put them into some kind of stasis field?" Wagnor asked.

"While I am not Veterinarian, I did have a dog that was rather nervous if left alone. There are scents that naturally calm animals, if we could find out the scents that aid in the calmer behaviour, then we could use that to help with keeping them calmer." Milton suggested.

Wagnor nodded, "I'm just concerned about having large animals panicking in the cargo bay."

“Rutherford is right, we just need to find what helps to calm these animals.” Sky offered a smile. “Perhaps a holographically generated environment, combined with familiar scents might help.”

"I'll let science and medical figure out the animals... and the planet needed, security, I want you to help coordinate the people on the planet." Xavier replied, Turning to the two Captains, "If you can offer some of your security it probably will be needed."

Paige had been about to counter what the officers had said, but she shut her mouth. She knew she needed proof before she could make the statement that there would be more to this than calming scents. Something just felt off about the information the colonists had provided her.

Milton nodded his agreement.

"Captain, we do have to discuss a few changes to the ship." Ross replied.

Xavier nodded. "Understood. You guys can come with me, to the ready room. He looked to the new arrivals, the marines, the captains and the admiral. "We can discuss it there. Time is of the essence at the moment. Commander Wagnor, get in contact with security from the Ellie, and the Hermes. Come up with a plan to start the evac. Dismissed."
