Mission:
Lantea
Location: Bridge
Ensign Element sat at her console, as she turned to the screen and its read outs. "Element to Commander Stoffels and Captain Carey, we are arriving at Lantea as scheduled sirs." She replied as she dropped out of warp.
"Excellent Ensign." Xavier replied as he sat the pad down on the arm of his centre seat.
Tony came onto the bridge a little later and took her place next to the captain.
Stood at the Tactical position, Jacen ran a scan of the Orbital Defense systems so that he could get an idea of what they were dealing with. It looked like there was plenty of work to be done upgrading the system. Jacen took a download of the schematics and the sensor readings so that he was up to date with what he was dealing with.
"I'm not detecting any enemy ships in the area, Captain, however from the readings I've taken of the Orbital Defense systems, we'll need to get plenty of work done on those to bring them up to specs," Jacen explained.
Xavier nodded, "As I understand it, the systems haven't been updated since the beginning of the Cardassian war. You will have your work cut out for you."
Jacen smiled "I'm always up for a challenge, sir, lets see what we can do eh?" Jacen offered back, ready to have a look at the systems to see what he was dealing with.
Tony sat back and watched. This mission would give her some time to see the new crew in action and to make sure that they worked together as a well oiled machine.
Etan was not at the main Ops position on the bridge as he was normally accustomed - he'd delegated that to one of his staff. He was instead standing, working on Ops II at the back of the bridge, next to the Science stations. That way, when he was called for the Away mission, there would still be continuity of presence at the main Ops terminal. Scans of the planet were not promising - Rendar's sentiment about the orbital defence was echoed by his own opinion of the planetary comms network and the various system responses he got. Thankfully, he'd been able to make sure they had a full complement of equipment aboard, and he turned to Jacen, speaking a bit quietly between the Ops II and Tactical stations. "If needed, we can put a probe in orbit to communicate with the current system as a stop-gap."
Jacen nodded as Lt tar-Lexros made the suggestion to him quietly. "Sounds like a good plan, thank you," Jacen quietly replied back to him.
He looked over the Bridge, wishing his eyesight was a little better (being about average for an Efrosian, it meant that his distance vision was sometimes lacking without assistive devices). "Ops confirms Tactical's report, sir. It's not just the orbital defences that we'll need to work on. As soon as we can send a team down for systems triage and resource provisioning, we can put specific plans together."
Looking over at the Captain's position, made the suggestion to him from Eton. "Captain, to offer us the best chance of making sure we can get these upgrades in place successfully, I'd like to recommend an idea from Lt tar-Lexros?" Looking over at Eton he gave him a smile.
"His suggestion is that we get a probe launched into orbit whilst the work takes place? That way all teams can stay in touch and also allow for the work on the current orbital systems to go smoother if we have a way of liaising with the ground-away team. I also agree that this would be a good idea ahead of the work thats needed." Jacen hoped that this would be a way to be able to work the lieutenant better.
"Very well, do what you guys need to do to make it happen." Xavier replied, casually he took note on the padd in front of him. "Let me know when its ready to happen."
It didn't take very long for Etan to pull up a Type 8 probe in the system. The probe management aboard a Galaxy-class ship took a lot of the manual labor out of the process if it wasn't an extremely custom job. A firmware flash, dropping in both planetary and orbital sensor pods, a tactical sensor control rig synced to the planet's aging defense net, and a full comms relay along with the processors to run them, it was all done in minutes with a multirole probe that was loaded with useful components. Prefabbed parts made the job simple, too. If they needed to upgrade it for something special, that would require a couple people and some time, but for the moment, he didn't see the reason for that. "Captain, the probe is ready to go online on your mark. Tactical can fire it, or I can beam it into place and use a repulsor to give it inertia."
He nodded at Jacen, appreciating that the man had taken his idea. It was at least a first step to working together well.
"How long before the probe is ready?"
"It's ready now, sir."
"Very well... contact the planet, let them know we will have out teams sent to their destinations within the hour. Or as soon as everyone is ready, which ever comes first."
Etan nodded at Xavier as he spoke into the earpiece, looking down at his board as he started calling planet-side services. As soon as that was cleared, he looked back up. "Captain, civilian services say they'll be ready to go when we are."
"Notify the Crew that we have arrived." He stood "Launch the probe, and lets get to work."
Tony got to her feet as well. With the captain overseeing things on the bridge she couldl get on with some work in her office and then take over from Xavier later.
At the Ops station, Etan tapped a few commands, setting the probe on trajectory for a steady orbit to stay in sync with the planetary comms and defense grids. He turned to Rendar. "The probe is ready to deploy from tube three." He turned back to his panel and opened the all-hands comm frequency, sending out the standard audio signal to indicate to the crew that the Resolution was now on-station at Lantea. He didn't see a need to push a custom alert; everyone knew what the mission was - the cargo bays had already started to report in that equipment was being moved onto the cargo transporters, and all of the transporter rooms reported in ready.
"Very well. I have some business on the surface myself." Xavier replied, "Commander Stoffels, you have the bridge."
