A small disaster

Posted on Tue Nov 21st, 2023 @ 6:26am by Lieutenant Sky Jansen-Carey & Lieutenant JG Kiara Rahl (Jansen-Carey) & Commander Antonia 'Tony" Stoffels & Lieutenant Talsi Carey & Lieutenant Geiger Zaal

Mission: Lantea
Location: Various
Timeline: After away team departure

With the away team down on the surface Kiara was in-charge of Sickbay, not that there was a lot going on in Sickbay. Everything was quiet, Sickbay was re-stocked and tidy so all in all she had very little to do right now. She had no doubt Rutherford would be in touch with any requirements he had for medical supplies for the surface, but for now she was going to enjoy the peace and quiet.

Sky was finally starting to come around to the fact that having less hours to work wasn’t such a bad idea, though the Starfleet workaholic in her was itching to do something. She’d spent some time in the twins nursery, the ‘nesting instinct’ she had was working overtime as she’d planned out what she needed to buy to be ready for their arrival in the next couple of months. That done she decided to head up to the bridge, there was nothing to say she couldn’t sit and keep Tony company.

Tony tried to make herself comfortable on the bridge. Whoever had designed that damned centre chair should have been shot there was just no way to sit in it comfortably without looking like a fool. So she wiggled around a bit every so often while she tried to focus on yet more paperwork.

As the doors opened she smiled at Sky. "Welcome Lieutenant, anything I can do for you?"

“Actually...N...” Sky was interrupted as the ship suddenly shook violently, the red alert sounded before the ship suddenly and violently lurched throwing people from their seats, and sent Sky tumbling. Sparks flew from bridge consoles before the emergency lights kicked in.

~ Sickbay ~

In Sickbay Kiara held onto her desk for dear life trying not to get injured, once the commotion stopped she hit her comm badge. =^= Sickbay to Bridge...what’s happening?”

There was no response.

=^= Sickbay to anyone who can hear my voice.. =^= Kiara sighed as there was no answer. Comms were down, question was what else? She moved to get her phaser just incase the ship was under attack. For now she had to get Sickbay ready for incoming wounded.

~ Bridge ~

On the bridge Tony had tumbled out of her chair and hit a few things before she came to a stop. Groggily she lurched to her feet. "Damage report! What the hell happened. Is everyone alright." Her right arm and shoulder were hurting like hell and she could feel blood seeing over her face from a cut on her head.

Slowly getting back up from the floor a Young Ensign moved towards Ops “Checking...Commander.”

Sky slowly moved from where she’d been tossed. Luckily she hadn’t impacted anything harmful, but what she had hit had definitely broken her arm. She nodded as the nearest crewman helped her to her feet, before she made her way across to Tony. “Are you...okay?” She looked around. “Someone grab the emergency medkit!”

"I am fine." Tony snapped wiping the blood from her face. "Anyone not fine? Check those around you and report. Sky... you don't look good. And I need a status report. What is working, what isn't." She kept her voice calm while she felt anything but.

Sky looked around, then back at Tony. “I’m okay, pretty sure my arm is broken though, and with power out there’s no turbolifts or transporters.”

Tony bit back a curse. "Anybody here got medical experience?" Of course she had but she needed to stay in control of the ship now and not look after the wounded. There were more around the bridge.

“I can try and help” Sky gave Tony a nod. “I just need some help to set this arm first.”

Tony looked around and the bridge crew was either incapacitated, helping others or doing their jobs. "I can do that." She then said and fetched one of the emergency medical tricorders. Once Sky was up and running she could coordinate helping the others and Tony could get back to running the ship.

Keith looked around the area and realized where he was when the power went out. He went down into the wall, but he bounced rather well. The man stood and fixed his mustard jacket and then went to the Bridge to see what was going on. The doors didn't open for him and neither was lights on. Only the red glowing klaxon lights illuminated the corridor he was in behind the Bridge. As a relief operations officer with engineering training, he went to the door and pulled open the panel and took out the suction cup to allow him to open the door to the main bridge. It took a matter of minutes and he stumbled through the half open door at the back of the bridge. "Ma'am, everyone alright?" he asked.

"I am sure glad to see you, lieutenant." Tony said. "We have wounded and the power is out. I would appreciate your help to figure out what the hell happened and better yet, how we can fix it."

Sky offered Keith a polite nod as she gently moved her arm, it wasn’t fully set that would require a trip to Sickbay for the bone knitter to be used but at least it wasn’t painful anymore. “I’ll check on the wounded.” She took the medkit and set off to check on the rest of the bridge crew.

"Understood he said," as he went to the consoles on the back wall of the bridge to see if he could get anything from the consoles, though he figured he may not be able to. He pulled out a tricorder that was still working from one of the many kits stashed around the bridge and started to look at everything. "As far as I can tell, this is more than just Deck 1. Looks like powers been either diverted into a safety mode by the computer, or something happened. I can go and see if I can get internal comms working to get in touch with anyone else on the ship." He was by no means a medic and only had rudimentary understanding of first aid.

"Do it." Tony said. "Then we can figure out what the hell is happening. Lt jansen-carey how is the situation with the wounded?"

Sky looked towards Tony from where she sat tending to one of the injured bridge crew. “Mostly minor injuries Commander, one crew member with a concussion so far.”

Tal walked up, "Transferring operations to tactical." Tal replied as she went through the motions. "Based on what we know what happened to the systems on the planet... this is how things started."

Tony wiped some more blood out of her eyes and tried to bite through the pain in her shoulder. "Are you saying this is connected to what is going on on the planet?" Then turned to Sky. "Good to hear, lieutenant. Keep them comfortable and stay off your feet yourself."

“Not before I sort you out Commander” Sky rose to her feet and made her way over to Tony to tend her injuries. “Let me see that head wound” she ran a scan with the medical tricorder before healing the cut with the dermal regenerator. “Slight concussion, not too bad. As for that shoulder...” she ran a scan tapping the screen. “That’s more complicated, some torn ligaments, muscular damage, but fortunately no breaks. She loaded up a hypo and pressed it to Tony’s neck. “Pain relief it’ll hold you for now, but you need to get that shoulder sorted down in Sickbay.”

"thank you." Tony smiled at Sky and then turned her attention back to the technical staff hoping for some more of an explanation.

Sky headed around to her seat to rest, the tumble she’d taken had left her more shaken up than she’d thought. Sitting down she just hoped they’d find a way to get the ship’s systems up and running soon.

Keith came back to the Bridge. "I was able to get basic comms up and operational. I had to reroute through the backup relays," the operations officer commented. "I'm showing external comms are done. I'll need to continue work on that to see what's going on," he finished.

"Continue, lieutenant. Good work." Tony said. "Any idea yet what caused this?" She turned to the communications officer. "Get me a status update on all sections of the ship."

Isabelle looked towards Keith “Are we able to contact the surface? Do our comms reach that far?”

Tal looked at the console, tactical was down, shields was inoperable, and targeting scanners were scrambled. "We are going to have to do a complete reset of both security and tactical systems..."

Tony cursed under her breath. "Any time indication on that?"

"Hours Commander. If we are lucky."

"Have we been able to contact sickbay yet?"

“I can try” Sky offered a smile from where she sat in her seat. “Bridge to Sickbay...Sickbay come in...” She sighed as there was a momentary patch before it fizzled out again. “I think you could say not yet Commander.”

"Thank you." She inhaled sharply as she thought. This was the first time she was in command of a ship in an actual emergency not a drill. "Right ship's systems come first. Get communication up and make sure life support keeps working. Second is to contact the captain on the planet and make him aware what is going on and then repairs to get us up and running."
