So what do we know about the Orions

Posted on Wed Apr 16th, 2025 @ 10:08pm by Captain Xavier Carey & Commander Antonia 'Tony" Stoffels & Lieutenant Commander Rutherford (RJ) Milton

Mission: Those who are left behind
Location: Ready room
Timeline: Slight backpost

Xavier walked into the ready room, and walked over to the replicator. Ordering himself a coffee, he sat down. As he watch the other two enter, he gestured them to get something as well, and take the two seats.

"So... what do we know about orions, can they be bargained with?"

"aren't they a bit like Ferengi?" Toni said. "But a bit more on the pirate side of things. And I don't like how they treat their women."

"The women are contracted with the Males." Milton said. "The dependent relationship between Male and Female is their foundational." Milton took a seat. "The Males are quite industrious; taking the 'Hunter / Gatherer' role to new heights Orion places on planets are considered Orion soil and if you want to free a female one must purchase."

Looking back and forth as he hesitated.

"I had an Orion instructor for the mandatory introduction to Counselor Training." He explained. "Took it as elective to work on beside manner; counsling and all."

"If we allow them to assist with the salvage it may... avoid bloodshed, although we may have to offer something anything they salvage we need." Xavier looked over, "Just wondering if they can be trusted, I know ferengi, as long as they get paid, they are somewhat trustworthy. If you can call it that."

"I don't like it." Toni said. "But to avoid bloodshed we may have to."

"I would rate Male Orions more as total Mercenaries." Milton commented. "They are in it for them alone, and will leave you out to dry if not in deal to keep you alive."

"Alright so we offer something they can't refuse, and watch our back while we are at it."

"Why not allow them the snapped hulks on the outer edge, the main hulls are still viable Security risks and thus should not fall under 'Open Salvage I think, and since we have located live enemy those vessels need to be check as 'Rescue' opportunities and not open to anyone but Federation personnel." Milton tried. "There should be enough goods and salvage from the broken hulks to satisfy the Salvage Operation to a profit?"

"It's insane." Toni grumbled. "We should have rules about this, keeping them away while we do our work. But I agree with Milton."

"Orions only follow the punishment articles of the rules when caught and try to get around the fact they are caught."Milton chuckled. "The Orion female I knew did not speak... Favorably of the Males."

"Alright. Lets open communication with the orions." He replied, as he turned to another matter. "With the case of Molek... I am Bias... I am not sure if I can be completely neutral when deciding his fate."

"We should take the facts to starfleet and see what they decide." Toni said.

"The fighters can be a deter-ant, more of them than Orions. Maybe remind them that we do have the 'Resources' to enforce Intergalatic Laws?" Milton said. Just let them be seen and implied strength?"

"We will let them hang around, lets contact them, let them know what they can salvage. But if they feel that they find anything that might be of use, let them know we would be willing to negotiate a payment."

"Hope they like the barter?" Milton commented.

"If there is something we want or starfleet can use, we can negotiate. Orions can use plenty of stuff we have... medical supplies for instance... starfleet has top of the line medical supplies, that we are always willing to assist people with."

"Black Market is also a profit margin for those." Milton chuckled. The darker side of things is where Orions make deals you know?"

"Oh, I understand that, but we start refusing medical aid... what happens then. Whether they sell it or use it themselves. So be it."

"I am confirming that Medical supplies are a valued Barter Item." Milton corrected.

"Then, thats what we will offer."

"Fingers crossed they go for it. But can you do without them?" Toni asked the doctor.

Xavier looked over to the Doc. "How much supplies can we spare, considering what we are doing right now?"

"You have to think I ordered everything that could be moved to the ship prior to departure; Excess is not what i would think we have in abundance, We do not know how many wounded we will get and there might be supplies on those hulls out there. Milton explained. I might sacrifice no more than 7-10%, which in the bulk we have is several Palletized loads of drugs that cannot be replicated."

Milton Paused.

There is the high value as the chemical composition of medicines artificially is not what most replicators are capable of producing. Even then Raw materials are in the system to create some of those as well." Shaking his head. "It is those natural medicines that the Orions will want."

"But we want those as well right?" Toni said.

"The highly profitable salvage and best reason to risk working in an area we also have operations." Milton noted. "The coming hostilities could drive the value of Medicines to comparable prices of Gold pressed Latinum during combat times."

"Alright, set aside what you think we can afford, perhaps we can ask about other things we can offer. Some food, I hear the food stores are plenty, with replicators online we shouldn't have any issue trading exotic foods."

Toni just hoped the Orions would go for it. They were a pest.

"I will give you a figure." Milton noted. "But start with a quarter the value as opening bid. The Orions will guess we start at 50% and demand it all, Bid low and they can go above double to put a squeeze on us and we will have some extra to counter and not over commit resources. They will demand more than double the 25% and we can afford to reluctantly give more than they ask."

"Understood. Kind of makes me yearn for the five year mission into the void once again. Sure we were listed as MIA for a few years, but it was peaceful in an odd sort of way." Xavier replied. It was there, they found Tal in an ancient frozen slumber, what looked literally like ice, kept her alive for thousands of years. While her species died out along with all civilizations around the vicinity, giving the area the nickname... the void. "The intel chief does have intel about the cardassians, that I can use. Which can help me decides the cardassians fate regarding asylum." Turning to the Doc, "Check up on the away team... make sure everything is going smoothly." Looking now to his XO. "Contact the fighters, and the other ships, any blip on their sensors we are out of here." Leaning back. "I think thats all we can do for now until we find out more information. Dismissed."
