Mission:
The Lost Brother
Location: sickbay
Timeline: after missing
Kiara was sitting in the nurses office relaxing, Sickbay was quiet or had been until the alarms signalled a problem with one of the patients.
Nick Sorrel was crouched in a small ball in his room in sickbay. He had not spoken a word since he had been rescued and had not communicated in any way with anyone. This had been the first movements he had made and of course the alarms in his room were blaring.
Rushing to the room Kiara was surprised to see Nick Sorrel curled up in a ball in the corner of his room. Deciding to be safe she tapped her comm badge. “Sickbay to Counsellor Jansen, please come to Sickbay.”
Sky was sitting in her office trying to take a moment to chill out, with the call from Sickbay she got up and headed straight there. “You called for me?”
Kiara nodded. “Nick Sorrel is awake.” She motioned to the viewing window into the room.
Looking in Sky nodded. “I’ll see what I can do” Slowly opening the door she stepped inside keeping a respectful distance. “Hello Nick, I’m Sky. You’re onboard the USS Resolution, you’re safe here.”
He did not respond just rocked slowly. His knuckles around his knees were white from the tensenss in his complete body.
Kiara watched keeping a cautious eye on events, patients in such conditions had been known to be violent out of fear, and she couldn’t afford Sky being injured.
“Nick...can you look at me?” Sky slowly moved to sit on the floor a little closer to Nick. “I know you’ve been through a lot. Tony is onboard ship, she’s our First Officer.”
"No! No! I won't see her. I won't." Faster than expected in his condition he lashed out at Sky managing to hit her before she could defend herself.
Kiara had little time to respond as Nick lashed out at Sky, she rushed quickly into the room.
Tony had been alerted that her brother was awake and just stepped in when Nick hit Sky. "Nickolas Sorrel, what the hell are you doing!"
"Get her out of her. Get her out!" He shrieked and returned to his fetus position rocking violently.
"Sky!" Tony said badly shaken.
Sky was just as shocked, but waved off Tony’s concerns. “I’m okay...” she offered a nod as she got to her feet accompanying Kiara to a biobed to be looked over. She had a saw jaw, and a bruised cheek but all in all she’d had worse. “It was my fault, I should have been more cautious.”
"What the fuck, Nick!" She started at her brother but even the sound of her voice made him seem to cringe and cry.
“Tony, don’t” Sky sat looking at Tony as Kiara took care of her face.
Kiara offered a smile. “Nothing broken, but you’ll have a lovely bruise there in the morning Counsellor. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have left you in there alone.”
“Hazards of being a Counsellor Kiara” Sky smiled. “Thank you.” She moved across to the window of Nick’s room. “Whatever happened he’s scared to death.”
"what do you want me to do." Tony said softly. She was hurt that her little brother did not want to see her and that was putting it mildly. "Nick and I were always good friends."
Sky offered an understanding gaze. “Just be there for him Tony. We have no idea what Nick has been through, he’s going to trust you before anyone else. “Right now my presence is just aggravating matters. Talk to him about fun times you’ve had together, put him at ease. Maybe he’ll open up.”
"Are you sure? He doesn't look like he wants me here." Tony hesitated. "I seem to be making him feel worse."
“You’re right” Sky sighed she was more shaken than she wanted to admit, “He doesn’t want you to see him like this” Sky rubbed her face. “He’ll come round. Right now I should get back in there, see if I can talk him round. At least get him back onto his bed.”
"Yes. I think so. I don't like the way he reacted to me. And it is not like Nick to hurt anyone, Sky."
“We may have to sedate him” Sky looked at Kiara who nodded. “I’d like to try to talk him round first though.”
"I will wait outside so he can't see me." Tony said while her heart was breaking.
Sky nodded. “Tony, don’t worry he’ll come round. The Nick you know is still in there.”
She nodded and then retreated to the waiting room.
Taking a deep breath Sky returned to Nick’s room this time keeping her distance. “Nick, can we talk?”
He continued to rock in the corner of the room.
“Nick” Sky offered an understanding glance. “Look at me Nick, you’re safe here. I promise you, I won’t let anything happen to you.”
She could see him watching him through lidded eyes but he did not make any other move.
“I’ll leave if you want me to” Sky offered a warm understanding smile. “I can come back later, if that’s what you want?”
"Just let me die." He whispered.
Sky was surprised to get a reply, but was glad she got one. “Why Nick? Why do you want to die?”
He started to rock again. "Just kill me."
“I am not going to kill you Nick.” Sky gave him a determined look. “Tell me what happened, let me help you through this.”
All of a sudden he lunged for her again. And for someone wounded he had a lot of strength.
Sky suddenly found herself up against the wall with Nick’s hands around her throat, he was alarmingly strong as she fought for air. She remembered seeing Kiara rushing into the room with security in tow but that was all she remembered as she lost consciousness.
"Call security!" Tony barked to one of the nurses. But she did not wait before running into the room. Sky did not have that kind of time. She tried to drag her brother off as she was stronger than he was but his fury gave him extra strength. So she wrestled with him until she got him away from Sky.
Kiara was quick to press a hypo to Nick’s skin as Tony restrained him, before turning her attention to Sky. Getting help to move her to a biobed she was relieved to find no permanent damage as she pressed a hypospray to Sky’s neck.
Sky coughed as she regained consciousness as surprised as Tony at Nick’s totally out of character behaviour.
Tony had slumped to the ground nursing her nose. He had managed to get in a good punch before Kiara put him out. She was close to tears. What the hell had they done to her sweet little brother. "This is not the real him, this is not my brother." She mumbled.
Soran stood in the doorway with two security officers, "you ladies all right?"
Tony just shook her head as she held it back to stop the flow of blood from her nose.
Sky simply nodded as she sat on the floor catching her breath, whilst Kiara dealt with Tony.
Kiara looked to Soran. “Our patient nearly choked Sky to death, and attacked Tony too. He’s sedated now.”
“Wasn’t...his fault” Sky looked towards Soran. “He wants...to die!”
Soren turned one of the guards "Garrison Help the counselor and the first officer out of the room please."
He looked sky in the eye and said quietly, "I've got this."
Sky nodded as she accepted the help to leave the room, she hated to admit it but she couldn’t handle Nick alone.
Tony accepted the help of the security guard who helped her to her feet. Blood was still flowing over her hands. "Maybe I should stay." She tried to sound firm.
Soran shook his head, "I need you to trust me on this,Tony I'll take care of him."
She swallowed hard. "Allright." She allowed the security guard to help her out of the room.
Kiara meanwhile had called Rutherford, before turning to help Tony. She needed to get the XO’s nose bleed under control. Having Tony sit down she quickly got to work stemming the nose bleed.
"I think he broke it." Tony said head still back as the bleeding would not stop. "But look after Sky first. She is hurt a lot worse."
Kiara nodded and waved across another nurse to help until Rutherford stepped in. Moving across to check on Sky she quickly got to work taking care of the resulting swelling to Sky’s throat.
"Lieutenant tend to the injured, I'll take care of the boy. I'll call for medical staff if they're needed. He turned to the second security guard. "Hegel Inform Lt. Rinne that I will be here until further notice, tell Garrison to stand guard on the door."
The Angosian gently picked Nick up and put him back on the biobad, he found a blanket and tucked him in. Of all the people on this ship there wasn't anyone who could understand this boy better at this moment. He checked his pulse, he doubted that Kiara had given a big enough dose to keep him out for so he stood in the corner and waited. He took the harmonica from his boot and began to play. Hoping the music would help ground ground the boy when he came to.
