Mission:
Lantea
Location: Briefing room
Timeline: Current
With things running smoothly, there was not really much to talk about, given the nature of the missions that the Resolution was on. But at the end of the week, Xavier still made a point to bring everyone together, to discuss everything, that was happening with the rest of the crew. However the setting was not official, and often times a buffet was provided, with music afterwards. With reports of the war going on, everyone could use a little down time. It would only be a matter of time before the Resolution seen action of her own.
Xavier walked into large room, noticed the food then walked over to the window, noticing the stars as they flew by. they weren't necessary in a hurry, as the current colony wasn't in any real danger, strategically, it wasn't much of a prize to go after. But war was war, and they needed to be protected, they could be swiftly overtaken should they not be protected.
Melor was the first to walk in and he smiled and nodded at the captain. "Afternoon sir." He said politely. "I haven't had a chance to thank you for allowing me to stay on board."
"Until we find a permanent replacement for Commander doctrine, it's an honor to have you on board."
Next through the doors was Sky, she offered both Melor and Xavier a warm smile as she made her way around to her seat to sit down. Any chance to sit down and take the weight off her back and hips was always welcomed.
Isla entered next. The petite engineer looked around the room and simply took a seat without a word.
Coming into the room shortly on the heals of the Chief Engineer was Aalis. She was still adjusting to taking over the leadership position in the security department, but so far, it had gone as well as it could have all things considered. With a polite nod, she sat down at the edge of the table, after having a quick debate with herself that she should be sitting at the table and not on the outskirts. She had been so used to being on the side lines as an assistant that she was still reconditioning herself to be the one in charge.
Kay and tony came in together. Kay waved at everyone and then made a beeline to get something to drink. Tony walked up to Xavier and took up her place next to him. Then she smiled and nodded at the assembled officers. There were so many new faces amongst the senior crew. It would take some work to make them into a well oiled command machine again but she had no doubt they would do it.
Etan walked into the briefing room, and for the first time was struck by the fact that he was one of the officers who had been on the ship for an appreciable period of time. He remembered walking into this room the first time, carrying a pile of PADDs in a report on every system on the ship, and feeling completely overwhelmed by everything and everyone. He hadn't realized at the time that they wouldn't care about the sonic shower heads on deck 7, or the storage of pre-burnt isolinear chips; those were things he was accustomed to reporting to an Ops Chief (and as the chief himself, still expected to see reports about), but until they impacted the actual function of the vessel, they didn't need to be shared with the command staff. Over the time he'd been here he'd found his way, somewhat, and had fallen into a better cadence with the ship and her crew. He looked over at Tony and Xavier, giving them a quick nod before taking his seat, pulling out a single small PADD, which also allowed him to provision several updated tickets before the meeting started. He switched over to his report, though he planned to wait for Hamilton, the new Engineer, to make her report; that way they wouldn't overlap.
Aalis looked over the crew assembled and noted that there were still a few that were missing. She nodded to Kay and the Commander as they had entered the room.
Xavier walked over to their new Security Chief, "Commander a word with you." His look was grim, and he kind of motioned to the side of the room.
Aalis had been caught by the Captain before she had been able to sit down and followed him over to the corner where he wanted a word with her. "Sir?" she asked, with some concern laced on the tone of her voice.
As they walked over to the side, "I have just heard from General Stoffels this afternoon. It seems that Lt Commander Soran Wagner, was killed in whatever mission starfleet intelligence sent them on. The blood that was found at the site, according to the general was fatal. No body. And it was only the Commanders. If I know the Commander, it could have been to protect the others getaway."
"Understood, Sir." She had already taken cover as the Chief, and now it was just more official that Soran wasn't coming back. A part of her heart panged for his loss, as he had been a good officer, even if they weren't friends.
Milton entered with Pix on his shoulder; a fairly common sight, he was not his usual pep in the step and while Pix glowed it did seem dimmer and she was paying closer attention Milton without her usual sparkle.
"Sorry I am late, Medical is a bit under the gun in preparations." Milton greet.
Pix nodded and kept watching Milton.
Lieutenant Troilin strode through the doors with pad in hand, her flight suit and leather styled Uniform jacket in crisp order. The Padd in hand with a smaller version on the right thigh. She nod to the group and quickly found a seat, she had been working non-stop to get her Birds in order and ready for flight on an instant's notice. It was then she spotted the glowing person on a man's shoulder; looking twice she verified that a Pixie type entity is real and is in the room. The little one made eye contact and gave a finger wave. She not disbelieved in Faries neither did Troilon actually confirm them.
"I believe in Faries now." She whispered to herself.
Kay smiled at her. "We have all sorts here on the ship. You will get used to it." and to Milton. "If you need help, sir, you need only ask."
"I am not a Doctor to turn down help." Milton smiled but Pix dimmed with his smile.
Looking to catch Tony's attention Pix has a less than jovial expression unti she turned to look Troilon in the eyes; grinned and finger waved to her.
"Who is she?" Troilon asked in a whisper.
*Pix...* The thought came to the pilot. *Short for Pixie Silly.* WIth a soft giggle that sounded more like bells, even in Troilon's head.
Tony finally looked Pix way and smiled. She sent a mental message to her little friend saying sorry for not having much time for her lately.
Jacen made his way into the large room, having not long ago made his way aboard the Resolution after the trip onboard the supply ship. He felt a sense of returning home, even though he was aboard a few months previously.
Something he was still adjusting to was the new issue Starfleet uniforms, however, that was becoming easier by the shift. Looking at the spread in one corner of the room, he noticed several officers already inside and decided to go and introduce himself.
Last time he was assigned to the Galaxy Class Starship, Jacen had been the Chief of Operations. Now he was returning as the Chief Tactical Officer and had already seen some action during his tour onboard the New York.
After discussing what the Captain needed to discuss, Aalis moved over to where the new Tactical officer was sitting. "Hi, I'm Aalis Rinne. I'm the Chief of Security. We'll be working pretty close together," she commented as she extended her hand to introduce herself.
Jacen took her hand and shook it as he introduced himself. " A pleasure to meet you, Commander, yes I'm Lt Jacen Rendar, the ship's new Chief Tactical Officer," he said. "Have you been on board long? This is my second time onboard and I'm hoping to make it last more than a couple of months."
"Awhile, yes," she commented before the Commander chimed in.
"And I am the first officer." Tony joined them. "You can contact me if there is anything you need."
"Commander, I'm Jacen Rendar, it's a pleasure to be back aboard the Resolution," he said as he shook her hand also. "I'll be honest, I wasn't around long before I was re-assigned so its good to meet people and hopefully make some friends," Jacen added.
"That would certainly be nice." Tony admitted. "I have not been on board that long myself but somehow it feels like an eternity."
Jacen nodded before turning back to Commander Rinne. "I'm guessing we should have a meeting at some stage, no that I'm aboard so that we can discuss Security and Tactical protocols on board?" he offered to her.
Xavier noticed the doctor, and walked up to him. "How you holding up doc." With everything happening the past couple of months, it was usually the doc asking others how they were.
Milton gave one of his Grins; the kind that he gives so easily, Pix on his shoulder was in Low Light-mode, not her usual for a crowd and lightly shook her head in a subtle manner.
"Future is always changing, just keeping up with it Captain." Milton said in a common tone. "Been a bit on the busy road, getting Sick Bay and all ready for this one." He told.
"Glad to hear it," He replied noticing Pix's low light. "We should be arriving at Lantea within the next six hours. I assume that everything is ready." He didn't need to ask, knowing the doctor, he was ready days ago. After all this was stop number three of five. It was the same thing at each stop.
"It is all up to the hype, as ready as it will get until we face what we really need." Milton assured.
"With everyone present, "Help yourselves to some food, just a brief going over the plan for the next stop is what I want to talk about. Nothing big. Lets make it a less formal meeting for now." Xavier went grabbed two plates of food, one for him, and one for Sky, before he sat down at the end of the table next to her.
Tony selected her own food and felt the pang of being here on her own no Ren to sit next to her. It had been the first serious relationship in her life and she had survived very well without it before so why the hell did it hurt so much now. trying not to show how she was feeling the first officer put up a brave face and smiled to those around her.
Jacen moved over to the table and selected some food for his plate, before taking a seat at the table, next to where Commander Stoffels was seated. Seeing Sky, he nodded politely.
Aalis went and grabbed some food after the throng of officers dispersed, just some finger food that she could munch on during the briefing. She had already eaten before the meeting, as she was one to try to always be prepared.
When Etan heard the name 'Jacen Rendar', something like a lightbulb went off in his head. That was the person Talsi had taken over from! This person who was now their Chief Tactical Officer was one of the people who'd been Ops before him, and who'd left the ship in something of a shambles. But the young Efrosian tried not to let that color his perceptions. Maybe the move to Tactical was right for the man; being in the position of blowing other people up was very different from the position of supporting and preserving the operation of their own vessel. He glanced at the food, but instead went to the replicator, quietly ordering a mug of black coffee. He retook his seat at the briefing table, looking up toward the Captain. He noticed that Rendar had immediately taken the seat he normally would have in a briefing, at the right hand of the XO, but he'd decided to stay on the other side of the table this time. He didn't know why, but it seemed like the right thing to do. He watched patiently, waiting to hear about the ship's next mission.
Kay plopped herself down next to Etan. "Hiya." She grinned at him. "You and I still have to plan something fun together. You keep getting away from me."
Xavier looked around, with mostly everyone present, he finished his bite. "So... the next planet is Lantea... as I am sure you are aware. Engineering and ops, you will be assisting with the updating of the systems of their computer networks, some of which is the physical replacements of the computers themselves."
Etan nodded at Kay with a smile, but as he was about to answer her, the Captain spoke. The Ops officer's attention switched instantly. If Kay looked over Etan's shoulder, she'd already see him typing away at his PADD, not only taking notes, but setting up library computer queries about Lantea and its systems, and querying the cargo manifests to find out what they had on board as far as spare computer systems, along with manuals they would need to read to install the devices and remove the old ones. As soon as he'd heard the briefing of the mission, he was already starting to get working on the resources they would need. This was part of being an effective Ops officer, being one step ahead of the situation. That would probably go a long way to explaining how he managed to "get away" from Kay so often.
As Etan looked up for a moment Kay stared back at him. "You can't keep running forever." She said with a wink.
"Doc RJ, the medical facilities are expecting some of the medical equipment that is currently in the cargo bay, some of which are top of the line and will need to be shown how to use, and set up. Also within the next few weeks physicals are due as well..."
"I can give them the run through on the operations easy enough." Milton assured. "And I have spoken to Security to fetch anyone that might forget a few appointment. He joked.
"Commander Rinne, Lt Rendar, you will be working with the defense systems orbiting the planet, as well as those on the planet."
"I will help with both areas. My areas of expertise will definitely help assess the Planetary side from a more judicial point of view," Rinne commented.
"Not a problem, I've had some previous expertise in working with Orbital Defense systems, I can get on with upgrading those, shouldn't be too difficult," Jacen answered.
At the mention of 'running through operations' from RJ, Etan looked up and blinked. "Doctor, if there's any challenge getting the Ops team to complete their physicals, please let me know, I'll put it on the work schedules." He looked over at the Captain and the Sec/Tac team. "As soon as we're in comms range, I can reach out and get a full requisition list from the planetary teams - we'll get the equipment moved where it needs to go. Anything we're not beaming into position, we have a full complement of shuttles and workbees aboard and in operational condition. We also have the probes for computer systems and communications."
Xavier nodded, "If anyone has any questions, just come to myself or the Commander here with them. Lt Carey will also be performing the crews routine psyche evals... with help from the commander here as well." He looked to Tony. "It is a big ship, lots of crew..."
"More than happy to help." Tony said. "If Sky and Kay need my help."
"Sure." Kay said. She was used to working with Tony.
“We’re always grateful for any help” Sky smiled warmly as she looked towards Tony. “Being on reduced hours has its drawbacks, but Kay is doing a marvelous job.”
"Thank you ma'am." Kay said. She was used to being compared to Tony and come up wanting.
“Credit where credit is due Kay” Sky smiled warmly.
Kay grinned. Damn it did feel good to be seen.
"Very good." Xavier replied as he looked around. "I think that ends the official business... lets enjoy the meal."
